Jeep JK8 Project

Ok, I have bit the bullet.
I ordered the Mopar JK8 conversion kit.
It came in last Wednesday.

If you are not familiar with this, this is the one-way conversion kit from Mopar that turns a 4door Jeep Wrangler JK into a 2door pickup truck.
I am starting with a 2007 Jeep JK Sahara.

I am very excited for this build.
I am building it to sell.
I will post updated pics as I go along.

Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Sam

- spare tire & carrier
- tail lights
- sound bar
- rear seat belts
- roll bar padding
- side steps

You can see all of the pics I have so far here: Jeep JK8 Project pictures by sblaine - Photobucket

I had no idea you had to strip off the quarters. I thought the kit was an overlay.

Didn't realize there was that much surgery involved. Interesting.

Same. Looks like a pretty interesting project though. Those JK8's look like the HMMWV pickups, which I am ok with.

Jeep originally made 2 kits:
1. overlay bolt-on kit
2. weld-on permanent kit

They quickly did away with the overlay kit, which is the one in the video that you probably have seen.

Fascinating thread.

Thank you for posting.
I used to cringe seeing mods to new vehicles, but ten years of modding new vehicles totally cured me of that!

Really great pics!

Yeah. Mine will not be that expensive.

I cried a bit when I started tearing it apart, but it should be pretty sweet when I finish it up.

I will keep you guys up on the progress.
Next step is to cut the roll bars off.

Outstanding. JK-8s are hit or miss for me--some look cool while others I just think are awful. Either way though, this thread should be very, very interesting. Keep the pics coming.

What's the time frame by the way? Is this jeep your daily driver such that you want it back on the road by next weekend, or are you planning to stretch it out? Judging by your initial progress, it looks like you're hustling.

Dawm, that's a serious 'mod'. I expect this to become a more interesting mod on jeep's with damage to the rear bodywork cause you really throw away a sh*tload!

In your opinion, what is a hit for you? what is a miss?
I personally do not like them overdone. I am going to try to keep this looking as much like it could have come from the factory.

I am going to do a few minor mods:
- 2" AEV lift
- slightly taller tire on factory wheels
- adding Rubicon rock rails
- adding leather seats
- adding heated seats
- maybe aftermarket front & rear bumpers
- spray-in bedliner

I have a few other smaller detail ideas as well.

This JK is not my daily driver, but I am hustling to get this done sooner than later. I do want this Jeep to be a quality JK8 build, so I dont want to rush it too much.

Truthfully, I don't know. I've never really thought about it. All I know is some JK8s look pretty cool to me, and others . . . m'eh. I've got to see it.

I think when it looks like a fruit delivery truck from the 1940s, I'm not really a fan. But more rugged looking ones do look good to me. If you haven't seen AEV's Brute Double Cab, run a google search and you'll see my preferred style.

But don't worry about me here--this is your custom build. And it certainly sounds good. Either way, I've never seen a thread walking through a JK8 build, so I'm looking forward to this--whether it comes out like a fruit truck or a brute, I'll be following along.

I definitely know of the AEV Brute.
I've been a fan for years, back when the TJ brute started.
The new JK double cab is sweet.
I think you will like mine.
Glad you are following it.
Thanks.

I am really interested in this thread. I don't have the skills to do something like this so I like to see another regular guy make it happen. Keep us updated.

Yikes!

This looks like a lot of work. But I like the JK8s, so it's all good.

Nice job. Enjoying this build.
