Post Jeep questions

Hi,
I am looking at buying my husband a 1992 Jeep Wrangler and the guy selling it tells me it has 3 lift kits on it. He says it has a 1.5" lift, some other 1.5" lift kit and a 4" body kit that he has put on it. It has a 6 cylinder motor and 35x12.5" tires with 108,000 miles original miles and he is asking 5,700 dollars for it.

1. How do I tell if what lifts it really has?
2. How do I know if the miles are oringal or tampered with?
3. Is 5,700 dollars a good price.

I was hoping to surprise my husband for Christmas with this but wasn't able to and I know nothing about cars so I appreciate any help.

Jerri

Probably get better answer to this on the YJ forum. The JK section covers 2007-11 models

Can you post some pictures of it? There's no way to tell for sure if the odometer has been tampered with, but it is definitely illegal to do so. The mileage sounds low. It probably has a spring lift, a shackle lift and a body lift. Pictures would help to tell.

4 inch body lift sounds like a whole lot of trouble, but I'm not real familiar with YJs, so maybe I'm missing something.

Photos. But it's probably:
(1) slightly bigger springs: no easy way to tell at all.
(2) extra long shackles: they look like fangs under the front bumper
(3) that big body lift. Easy to tell: does the body look like it's way above the rear bumper? If there's a 4" gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom of the tailgate, then you definitely have this lift.

This type of lift can create complications with other components, can be done too cheaply and can be dangerous. It can also be done exactly right, and it's hard to tell. I think it comes down to whether you trust the expertise of the owner.

2. How do I know if the miles are oringal or tampered with?
You can't. But it's not the miles anyway, it's the wear and tear. Some Jeeps are driven hard and put away wet, and it shows. Look for rust on the frame, especially near where the springs attach. And take it to a mechanic.

3. Is 5,700 dollars a good price.
Not a fantastically great price. He wants the full money for those great big tires he shoved under there, and he's hoping they look cool enough you'll go for it. It's not a ripoff price though.

I was hoping to surprise my husband for Christmas with this but wasn't able to and I know nothing about cars so I appreciate any help.

Good Luck!!
