If I were a large corporation with no conscience, fixated solely on profits, I'd offer hush money.

Or have the blabbermouth killed.

while I understand that early JK's had an issue with the transmission overheating and causing the JK to go into limp mode, I can't understand how an overheating tranny will cause the jeep to ignite. I might, the fires in the videos seem to be starting on the passenger side, which I would think indicates its the electric panel going up in flames. I wonder how many jeeps that burnt up were running aftermarket electronics?

Also, hes a sucker. I woulda taken the hush money and demanded they gimme the cash for some PR60s!

Standby cuz there are rumors swirling around here about a possible press release regarding these fires that could come as early as tomorrow...

...but you didn't hear that from me.

I was gonna comment on this thread but alas the money I got a few weeks ago is preventing me. Love my new bumper though!

I would have scoffed at them and then demanded that they give me life time service for the next Jeep that I buy, along with the cost of a new jeep and extra money.

Confidentiality provisions are a common feature in many settlement agreements.

They help mitigate against the risk of a company being perceived as offering "low hanging fruit" to potential fraudsters--i.e., "Gee, I can light my jeep on fire and get a check for more than it was worth to begin with. Sweet."

If Chrysler believed a lawsuit was possible and its exposure was significant, then there's nothing necessarily improper about offering to resolve it ahead of time for a small premium and confidentiality. Of course, I'm sure they advised him that he should get a lawyer to look over the proposed settlement before signing it . . . right? And if it was in fact part of a wide-spread practice to fool consumers and the public, then other issues arise.

My two cents.

The 07 thru 08s hadda recall J30-I think to reflash ECU for "LIMP MODE" sequence, if you caughtit in time-

The fires start when the ATF-4 in the tranny temp reach's (Flash Point-374°) and bubbles outta the dip stick, to fall on the passenger side exhaust manifold and -----BAM-- "FIRE"

Always bring your barbeque sauce when you're on the beach and using 4hi--if you AIN'T GOTTA AUX COOLER-

_or towing up hills !

so wait, what is catching fire? is the tranny coolant igniting when it hits the exhaust? that sounds crazy and counter-intuitive, I would have assumed the only flammable liquid was the gasoline

So I'm reading this thread, and I go look at my 2012. There is an aux cooler out in front of the a/c condenser. Am I correct, that this is a trans cooler? It does not appear that there is an in-tank trans cooler in the radiator, is this also correct? I have a 2012 JKUS w/ auto trans.

It is somewhat common for manufacturers to do this sort of thing in the hopes of keeping product defects out of the media spotlight where they can easily be blown out of proportion. IN regards to the problem cited, it seems that synthetic fluid, which generally has a much higher flash point than regular fluid, would solve this problem rather easily.

It burns and produces a vapor that ignites/explodes and produces "HEAT" which causes averything in the engine compt to burn !!

Look at a bottle of window washer fluid. It say flamable right on it (or at least it does for the anti-freeze stuff we get up here). Oil burns pretty well too.

It seemed from the first article on this. This fire was electrical from what the owner thought. Don't know this for sure. There was a thread on this a while back but not really that many mentioned. One of the fires a while back was some idiot driving in 4h through tall dry grass in California and igniting it and his jeep. Another one listed was someone that got stuck and grass and mud got up into the exhaust/tranny area and they were revving it hard.

I don't really see these as exactly the same issue other then the tranny getting too hot in extreme conditions and that Chrysler should recall all auto pre-2012 and add a tranny cooler. That would solve most of these. And any pre-2012 auto owner should do this mod anyways. I added one, not waiting on Chrysler to do it. I like my Jeep too much to wait for a corporation to do the right thing. They added a cooler in 2012

What was involved in adding the cooler? Do you have any pics or a thread on it? I have an 07 Auto.

I saw a TJ in their video collection, did they have the same issue with the auto trans?

There is no tranny coolant. It is the transmission fluid, which is an specialty oil. There are lots of fluids in a car that will burn. In fact, I'd wager there are way more fluids that will burn than won't.
