Jeep submerged in water

I got my jeep stuck in the creek and water came in the driver side almost up to my seat but didn't get in the passenger side. Half the hood was under water. I never shut it off because the muffler was under water now the check engine light is on and it is cutting out. What can I do to fix it?

I think he's up it.

Sorry, OP, for your problem. Sounds like a trip to a mechanic is in order. Doubt you'll get that one diagnosed over the internet. But maybe somebody will have some suggestions for something you could try.

If the engine got waterlocked it would have stalled. If water wasn't as high on the passenger side, he probably got lucky and kept in intake over the water level.

He probably has water in some electronic control.

pull the air filter. If it's wet, good luck.

I'd start by changing ALL of the fluids. Oil, front/rear diffs, trans, transfer case, brakes. Pull all the plugs and check for water.

If water got in to a connector somewhere it's going to take forever to dry out on it's own. Might be a good time to call your insurance agent.

Just do these two things and come back with the results.

I need the codes to help.

When you say "cutting out" what do you mean? Is it stalling? When does it stall? Does it start at all? Can you drive it a certain distance? Did it get flat bedded out of the trail? Is it a manual? Did you push the clutch while in the water? Details please.

If it starts, has no power, has a yellow engine light, and stalls after trying to drive it. Then my guess is the catalytic converter is trashed from the back build of exhaust fumes from the pipes being submerged for an extended period of time.

My suggestion would be to unplug the pre cat sensor and leave it dangling so the exhaust can escape from the bung. If it starts and runs fine, the cat is plugged. If it still has the same problem, then it's something else.

If only half the engine was submerged and it was mostly the driver side, then you might be safe from hydro lock and the intake is on the passenger side. If it was hydro locked it wouldn't start at all typically, which makes me lean toward drivetrain or exhaust.

Give us the codes and we might be able to do more. Otherwise I'm just stabbing in the dark here.

Edit:
Just want to reiterate what the other member said. You need to change ALL your fluids.

Probably electrical. If it's stalling at high speed, my guess would be the cam sensor. It's probably just water logged.

Open the hood and take a leaf blower to it. Leave it sit for a few days in the sun and it should be fine.

Again just a guess, might be able to be more specific when you get your codes.
