Well, haven't hit a deer in a long time. Last time was in my sisters car and it left some damage. Coming home about an hour ago, one ran out in front of me at 45 mph. Didn't even have time to hit the brakes. Sad for the deer and it was a pretty good size doe.

Guess I am lucky the Jeep sits so high, not to mention the aftermarket bumper, RR XHD. Not sure the stock bumper would have made it through without at least a dent. Sort of scared me at first because it being a stubby but the bumper did it's job. Got a lot of deer hair over it but the Jeep itself didn't get a scratch. Daughter wasn't happy a deer died but the Jeep at least held up. It took the impact well and just felt like a bump on the road.

Glad to hear everyone was ok and your jeep was unhurt too! I guess that's another reason to get an off road bumper with all the deer around me

This time of year they are moving A LOT!!!. Your lucky. Sorry for your daughters distress, sad fact of life, deer and vehicles don't mix well. Very glad to hear neither of you were hurt. And for this type of an accident it sounds like you got away clean. VERY GOOD!!! Not sure of size, up here a mature doe can really do some damage. A big buck? They can total your ride! Glad your both ok....thats really all that matters.

Glad you guys are ok! I have only hit a deer once and I felt really bad (but really it ran into my car so there was no avoiding it). I had nightmares about deer for weeks, so I can see where your daugther is coming from! The only reasons I hate driving at night is deer and elk!

You're lucky. I almost hit a couple tonight and it shook me up a little.

A couple of years ago, I was with a group of friends on motorcycles. We watched one race across the road directly in front of us and we almost hit it. It was beautiful and everyone of us was watching it. A few minutes later we stopped and talked about how it was such a close call and how a deer like that could've caused a chain reaction to take us all out. One of our members spoke up and said, "While all of you were looking at the one deer that crossed the road, I was looking at the whole family of deer on the other side which was about to follow him." OMG...while we were distracted watching one, we neglected to look at a herd who was ready to race into our collective path.

Deer can be scary...be careful all :)

The weird thing was just yesterday my daughter was talking about a friend who hit a deer and it messed up their car and asked if I ever hit one. I told her I did about 25 years ago but haven't came close since. I think she jinxed me. We had to go out again, she wanted the new Harry movie that came out at Midnight. They had the deer removed but couldn't believe how much blood was still on the road. It wasn't a huge doe but it was an full size adult. Guess the light bar also help it from going into the grill.

Glad to hear that both you and your daughter are OK.

I hit a dear in my Caravan several years ago with my son in the passenger seat. I caught movement in the corner of my eye and when I realized it was a dear I stood on the brake. The Caravan did a nose dive and I was impressed with it's stopping power. When I hit it I was probably going only about 3 mph. The dear laid down on the hood, sort of bounced off and then continued on its way. It bowed the hood. My son was about 10 back then. When we got home he said "Mom, you should have seen the look on dad's face!" I guess the dear surprised me pretty good. When I traded the Caravan for the jeep, the hood was still bowed. The Caravan owed me nothing. Well, that's my dear story. Hopefully unlike you I hope I don't tag another one now!

You have created a life memory for both of you. Eventually she will probably tease you about it. I take a ribbing about my experience once in a while from my son. Glad to hear that the jeep held up well.

Well, didn't eat it. Not a deer meat fan. Of course my bother may be mad that I didn't call him. Usually deer killed on the road here are sent to the local animal park. They have a pack of wolves there who greatly appreciate road kill. They seem to get a lot. Seems like a lot of deer this year. I see them several times a week which is a little unusual. Not that we don't have a large deer population here, just have a lot of places for them to hide.

grilled em..

I have seen some go thru the windshield, thats a problem up here with the moose to, but usually the result can be death for both involved. Nice to hear no one was hurt. Btw they taste better if you skin em before you grill em..

Pun intended :thumb:

Interesting question. YES-------BUT!

I spoke with a MA State Trooper the other day and he had them on his SUV Duty Rig. His opinion......They work WELL at speeds below 50 mph was his VERY informed opinion.

He installed the after getting a deer thru the windshield. He said he wasn't hurt but the paperwork on the totaled cruser all but killed him.:D

The "Rut" is on about now. Bucks will be moving 24/7 for 10 days. Does will also be moving to both meet and avoid bucks.

Deer cost more money to the motoring economy than you can imagine. Lights, Deer Whistles and SLOW DOWN work to avoid bad meetings this time of year!

My Brother-In-Law totally impolded a SAAB-complete freeking basket job with an 8pt buck about 2 miles form my house in coastal Massachusettrs! We have BIG deer here for some reason. 200# is NOT unusual.

You all should look on youtube for several videos of spotbikes hitting deer at around 100mph. In several of the vids, the bikes split the deer in half without causing the bike to wreck (of course there was lots of plastic damage). It's pretty amazing.

I've always thought that if I ever hit a deer on my motorcycle, I'm gonna be totally p*ssed if I don't have my helmet camera turned on lol.

That's an amazing photo, btw.

I hit a deer a long time ago in my cj7. Four of them ran across the road and its always the next one that gets you. Sure enough number five came out I had no where to go. I braced up and prepared for impact. I didnt feel anything. My 36"s did a number on poor bambi. It did bend my front tag under my bumper. The worst thing that hit my jeep was a bat hitting my windshield at 55mph. It hit flat on my windshield right in front of my face. I was amazed that it didnt brake it. One tough cj7.
