Lakeman, a dealer should be able to pull up your VIN number and see if you have any outstanding recalls for the 2012. And I believe service work if done at a dealer. Usually the VIN ties records together.

My dealer, in Myrtle Beach SC told me they have no parts and couldn't even give me a timeline.

My airbag light constantly flashes on and off with an annoying bing sound. None of my steering wheel controls work either. Are these issues connected? Any chance the dealer will replace them?

Or should I order the new clock spring and replace it myself?

Yep. I got it a couple weeks ago and laughed. Love how they basically say that the airbag can spray occupants with plastic and metal shards when it opens, but to just chill until they find parts to fix it, and then send us another letter.

Guess its better than nothing?

My wife got the same recall letter from Toyota for her Matrix, that was in July 2015, 13 months ago. Toyota’s letter states that no one should sit in the passenger seat until the airbag is replaced. That basically makes the Matrix a single seater. Although the FCA letter doesn’t talk about not using the passenger seat, I can’t see myself driving with family sitting there so the Jeep is now also basically a single seater.
Like Antenna_X says, I also was told dealers won’t take the Matrix on a trade in because they can’t resell them. I assume it’s the same for the Jeep now.

I hope FCA moves quickly on this but I’m far from holding my breath. I will be calling FCA regularly, the squeaky wheel thing ...
Well hopefully a good sign. Our Toyota dealership replaced the Takata airbag inflator in our Matrix on Friday. I'm hoping it's a sign they are becoming available and the wait for the replacement in the Jeep will be much shorter than the 13 months we waited for the Toyota.

Has anyone had their inflator replaced in their Jeep yet?

My Air bag blew on its own

3 months ago my air bag blew on my 2012 Jk in my driveway. No contact, I just came out and it was blown. Chrysler sent out a investigater. Never heard a thing back. Their customer service is the worse. I'm screwed. I have an aftermarket extended warrantee that of course doesn't cover airbags. I've had it. Getting outrageous quotes to fix. Now I will fix it myself. Buy a new air bag and replace the clock spring. Only problem...can't find a clock spring anywhere. I hate Chrysler....

I have a 12 JKR that I bought new in Oct. 2011. It has had three or four recalls done on it and I have yet to get a recall notice on the airbag or clock spring. When I put in my Vin a month or so ago it came back with no recalls.

The dealer called me today and supposedly the part is on back order. I do not care if it works or not, what makes me nervous is wondering if it will go off on it's own while I am driving down the road.

I received the recall for the airbag on my 2011 JKU and my 2007 RAM. Called and was told the parts will not be in till first part of 2017.

I have already had the airbags replaced on my 2007 RAM TWICE...

Both Recalls and Terrible Customer Service

We received letters for both the clockspring and the passenger airbag issues. Chrysler "customer service" called a local Chrysler/Jeep dealer near us and set up an appointment to have the repairs done saying that the parts were in stock. After 2.5 days in the dealership it turns out that they do not have the parts in stock for either repair. So 2.5 days wasted...
I also called Chrysler about the inlet check valve that is failing causing the spit back of the fuel and found out that our Jeep (2008 Unlimited Rubi) is not covered. So for 2 days I called the service rep that had my Jeep and asked him to get me a price on fixing doing the repair while the Jeep was there. He never got me a price and so when I went in today to pick up the jeep I told him that I would just purchase the part and do the install myself since they would not do it, even for $$. He sent me to Parts. In Parts they said I had to buy it from Service since it was a recall part. I went back to Service and they said that they would not sell it to me unless they did the install themselves. (which they refused to do for some reason...?) Fortunately I am seeing that the part is available for half the dealership price on another thread in this forum...

Got the recall notice for S33 Clockspring, and S43 Airbag Initiator...
Called my least favorite dealer and they scheduled me for Monday....

S33 says, in part, the dealer will do a DTC check for stored codes regarding the clockspring.. and that the cause is "extremely dusty conditions"... IF there are any codes, then the clockspring will be replaced. I have a DTC reader & the Jeep has no stored codes. I'm anticipating a wasted hour so they can clear the recall.

There's no telling how long to get S43 done.

When I checked the FCA recall website, there were 5 for my JEEP; 3 had been done, plus the new ones.

Interesting in that it's a Canadian vehicle, and several other recalls don't apply....

Will update Monday

After reading this thread, it seems that most people who are affected by either the clockspring and or the inflator housing recalls are not doing anything drastic like getting rid of vehicle or not driving it. After speaking to a dealer last night about a 2007 jku I was looking to buy, they said they have no idea when the parts will be available, and that some people have been waiting a long time with no idea when they could see the fix happening.

Would anyone be concerned about buying a jku that has both these recalls on it, knowing it could be months before the parts are available for the fix?

Nope. If you are worried some dealers will disconnect the airbag, but you have to sign a form saying you wanted it done and no one coerced you into signing it. that way you can't go back and sue them if you are hurt in an accident. I found out about the recalls here after I bought my Jeep, so I looked up my SER. number and sure enough nothing had been done to my Jeep and when I called the dealer I was surprised that they said we will order the parts and call you when they come in. 4 days later they called me and said when do you want to bring your Jeep in ? 3 days later I had it fixed then 4 days later My check engine light came on and they said I needed anew catalytic converter. I can't under stand why they put 4 of them on it, 2 on each side of the Y pipe but any ways they fixed that too all I can say is I am glad that was under warranty. When we got the Jeep I paid extra to have an extended warranty because I knew the time would run out before the mileage would and before this one runs out in 4 years I will extend it again, because the cost is cheaper then the parts and being at the age where I do not like crawling around much and doing the work I get the Bumper to bumper warranty.

I have a 2012 JK, will it have the clock spring recall? What is the "clock spring"?

The clock spring is actually a wire. It comes up the steering column and connects to the airbag. It's wound around the column so the steering wheel can turn while still making the connection.

We have a Toyota, the airbag light came on indicating the airbag would not deploy. It was the clock spring and was fixed under a recall. I assume it's the same for the JK.

I also have a 2012 and the FCA website tells me I have the Takata airbag recall not the clock spring. I suggest you lookup your Jeep. Here is where I started https://www.moparownerconnect.com/

Thanks. So the 2012 may or may not have the recall?

Regarding the Takata passenger side airbag... The dealer tells me it could be quite a while before they get the replacement parts for the recall. Is there a way to disable the passenger side airbag on a 2008 Unlimited without disabling the driver's side also? Has anyone been able to get the dealer to disable it? I saw a post somewhere about this but when I called the dealership who had just done the clockspring repair, they said that they could not do it without the manufacturer telling them to do it.

I have a 12 JKR. I went on the FCA website and put in my VIN. It showed that I had two recalls done, though I have had at least four, but maybe the others were not safety related. Nothing came up about the clock spring or airbag.

My biggest fear...driving down the highway, kids in the Jeep, and the airbag goes off. This is the first thing I have read that an airbag went off by itself; has there been any other incidents of it happening?

The recall says it will not inadvertently deploy, and that the warning light is saying it cannot deploy...but...?

I was told by my dealer service rep that the passenger side bags should be shipping in February but that they would only get a few each and that they had 3000 recall vehicles in their area alone so it would take a long time to get everyone's vehicle done...

Might of been posted before, but this is FCA's (Fiat Chrysler Automobile) website for recall. Enter your VIN and it will tell you which recall affects the vehicle and if they have been done or not. There is also information related to each recall by clicking on them.

Hope this helps.

driving along and *ding* the light comes on. Does it now every time I drive...not right away when I start, but randomly within a couple minutes to half an hour.

I got a notice about the clockspring on Friday. It basically said it was extending the warranty on that item to 15 years but that if I'm not having a problem that I didn't need to bring it in.
I have the lifetime warranty on my jeep anyway so I'm not too worried but I'll put the paper in the glove box with my user manual in case I ever need it.

Mopar Lifetime Extended Warranty - Backed by Chrysler. When I picked up my Jeep the dealer offered it and since I expect to have it "at least" 20 years I figured it was a good investment. Even though the price tag was like $1800.

Obviously it doesn't cover things like clutch disk, brakes, tires but pretty much everything else. The list of covered items was pretty extensive.
