Jeep Wrangler - A/C

Like I mentioned in a different thread my wife and I are planning to buy a Jeep. They want over 1k for the A/C - do you guys really use it? Most of the Jeeps I see in the summer run with their top off, so I don't see much use for the A/C. The Specs mention that the base model comes with A/C bypass - does that mean the A/C can be installed later on if needed?

Thanks!

I don't know about installing after the purchase, but I bought a new 2010 a month or so ago and as pumped as I am to run my new toy with the tops off it got up to 100 degrees here a couple weeks ago and I used the heck out of that A/C.

If this is a second car that you'll only drive on perfect days it probably doesn't matter. But if you take it somewhere you don't want to be a sweaty wind blown mess ...

I'm not sure about the 2011, VS my '08, but

If you get an automatic tranny--you'll get A/C, like it or not, so

If you get the 6spd stick, you'll have the option of A/C or not !!

Yan - I've used both A/C and the heater (not at the same time *grins*) with the top off. The air vents are perfectly positioned to warm your hands on cold mornings.........

Plus A/C is so handy for drying out and de-misting a damp interior in the winter.

Not sure it can be added later, but, I'd think it could be, no doubt others will chip in on the subject

Top off with high temps and high humidity (throw in some rain too) doesnt make much sense to me. Get the ac.

Even with the top down, I've been caught in slow freeway traffic and had the a/c on, because when you aren't moving fast, the top down is just a sun beating on your head..... BTW: I also keep a "hand towel" the bathroom type,in the Jeep as a sweat towel for stop n go traffic.

i rarely use my a/c, but i am glad that i have it. it is worth the extra $$$ on those days where the heat and humidity are oppressive. also, on summer days when it is raining, it make a world of difference.

I guess it matters where you live here (AZ) you have pretty much 2 days of triple digit hot days. I would never buy a car or truck without it.

I just bought my JK last week and it had A/C it said it was a 895 upgrade but since it was already on the jeep it was easy to just work in the deal.

Someone mentioned it will be a great resale value too.

There are a lot of things to consider if you are thinking of adding it on later. I would imagine it will be well over 1000 bucks to add it later even if you add an aftermarket option. Plus they have to add a fan and rip the dash apart to add it later.

I say if you can afford it do it or find a jeep that has all of the options you want and talk them down. Don't be shy either they are working deals right now with the 11's coming out

It may be decadent but I really enjoy the cool air coming from the A/C while the top is off. And the resale element should not be overlooked.

AC in my Jeep is the Best AC I have had in any ride!

And I like the ac vents how they rotate.

Get AC

MY JK is my DD and I am on the Highway 99% of the time so there really is no need to use it...I save gas by rolling the windows down

Although, if you get a hard top and dont take those freedom tops off while city driving, your gonna wish you had A/C

If you have an Auto, a lot of times you may want to use the A/C to help cool your tranny, whether or not you have an aux cooler !!

So be sure and getit for all the above reasons !!

Definately buy the A/C. I had a similar thought when I bought mine last year. I figured with the top down and doors off I would be fine. Well it didn't work out. I traded in my 09 yesterday and bought a 10 with A/C. I got a great deal yesterday when I got my 10. They are trying to get them off the lot!

As you can see we are all for A/C...get it, if you dont you will regret it one humid, muggy summer day and it begins to rain and you have NO A/C and you are boiling in your Jeep. Its well worth it, I personally would never buy a vehicle without it.

What is funny is people are all for the A/C in this thread... but in the past I have seen people make snap comments similar to: "driving their JK with the widows rolled up and the A/C at full."

I live in a dry and HOT desert... needless to say, I am a big fan of the A/C feature in ANY vehicle. Besides, with a Jeep you will probably want to take it in every environment possible, snow, desert, forest, etc... a A/C would be a smart thing, yeah?

I was thinkin it...

I run A/C with no top also. It works fairly well even at freeway speed if you get the vents lined up just right, and as a "dealer option" it's one of the few that are priced well. Aftermarket will run $1200 for a generic universal setup, and custom matched ones just go up from there.

I bought my 2010 sport bare bones. The only thing it had for a add on was ac. I've had my top off 95% of the time I've owned it but being in north east pa it's got to go up from time to time but even in the rain I just don't put the windows in, just pull plugs and enjoy a moist jeep :-). The ac is sweet to have in traffic with the top off or just to cool down and dry off from time to time. For 895 you can't go wrong plus like someone said resale. I haven't had my top up in days. Today I used both the heat and ac. Can't beat it. The great thing about buying the base model is that I paid 22000 and was able to upgrade my wheels and my sound system for half of what a saraha package would have run. That's just me though Wrangler is a lifestyle not your normal transportation.
