This write up was awesome. Thank you for taking your time to share your story and experience. I go on motorcycle rides ever year for past 5 years and thought about documenting, but then I get lazy. Good job!

Question, I didn't catch why you trading in the jeep? If its non of our business you don't have to answer. But seems like you put a lot of effort time and money into this rig, why trade it in now?

Because I am doing more and more challenging terrain, and Im at the point now that I wished I had the rubicon goodies. Financially, it makes sense for me to trade in now (only losing about $1500 on my current rig in terms of trade in value) and get a rubicon then it does to build this one up. I do have money invested, but 90% of the mods are swapping right over, and the other 10% are for sale.

Long Island native here...we are taught from a very young age that NJ is the armpit of America!

Oh, and the newly passed mag capacity law in NY makes total sense. Now the bad guys can only carry 7 rounds as well, and I'm sure they turned in all of their high cap mags so as to comply with the new laws. It has given our Law Enforcement the edge in the fight against illegal guns and gun violence. They should have limited mag capacity to 1 round, that way bad guys only have one shot at you and if they miss then they will just run away.

I just wanted to say thank you for your posts. A buddy and I had planned a 4 day fishing trip for Labor Day weekend with no specific destination in place. Your trip report turned that short fishing trip into a 2,200 mile road trip with us fishing Buckhorn lake north of Uray, and bouncing around some of the trails (Imogene, Engineers, Alpine loop etc..). Beautiful area.

Glad you had a great time. It's a beautiful place to be.

Where was this?

I want to do a lot of forest exploring sometime in the near future.

That was east of Colona Co (just north of Ouray about 15 miles). Go up past Buckhorn lake about 5 miles until the trail dead ends into an 800 ft rock wall.

This was an amazing read and site, thank you for posting your experiance!

It reminded me of my cross country trip, Breckenridge CO to Upsate NY, 38 hours straight through all alone. Was driving my '86 CJ-7. When I got there I was rocking back and forth so bad and didn't even realize it until someone held me still!!!

Great post here.. You got me excited about doing some road trips. I will be retiring this year and we plan on doing some trips like yours. We bought our 13 JKU just for this. We have four wheeled many of CO's trails ( Mosquito Pass and Red Cone being my among favorites ) in our TJ Rubicon but never made it to the 4 corners area yet to wheel due to all of the great trails in our area of the state. My wife and I just discovered the awesomeness of the San Juan's, Silverton, Ouray and the Telluride area but were always down there in our truck and 5th wheel RV. ( Can't do much wheelin in a full size pickup in those parts ) The Jeep will power our adventures and travels for the most part. Utah is also on the list. We will be back to camping and roughing like we did many years ago. I hope you are able to make CO your home soon. I have lived here my entire life and will never move, except to get further away from the cities. Thanks for the great pics and story of your travels... Well Done!!

Thanks for the great read! Not sure where the wifey and I are headed next spring, but hopefully it will be half as cool…and I complain about 6 hours to Denver as being TOO FAR.

Haha yea I just saw it, I guess someone posted it on my behalf and took the credit. Glad the rig is getting attention, nice parting gift for it. Sadly I feel the new owners will just mallcrawl with it, but who knows, maybe someone in the NJ area will decide to pick it up from the dealer after seeing this thread.

Its ok. I know he didn't do it to "steal" the photo. He just thought it was cool and shared it, not a big deal. The big deal is when someone tries to make money from my photos, then I unleash my lawyers. Im not one of those guys that gets all pissy when someone shares their photo online. If you post something online, expect it to be shared, linked, downloaded, copied, etc. So long as the photos are used for innocent and friendly purposes I have no problem with it.

I spent the week of Labor day in the San Juans so I thought that a few pics from Ophir Pass, Engineer Pass & Kinnebec would fit nicely in this thread.

Awesome! There are many trails I didn't have time for, so I will definitely check them out the next time I head out to Colorado.
