Jeeps contradiction....

On the official JEEP website it clearly states this...

Class II medium duty..single axle..3500lb max

Literally right next to it is this...A Jeep hauling a another Jeep, on a double axle trailer....

I want to tow my TJ with the JKU...according to Jeep I can't & I can...

And I'm sure that old jeep and trailer weigh more that 3500.

Looking at Big Tex Trailers, an empty 18ft car hauler is 2200 lbs. I'm thinking the Jeep weighs more than 1300 lbs and exceeds the weight. Even a smaller trailer would only allow a little extra weight for the Jeep / load.

Since when has there ever been truth in advertising? If that was the case, my cologne should have supermodels draping themselves all over me.

This surprises you? Since when has chrysler actually known anything about the products they sell or the consumers lol. If they did I could buy a hemi wrangler instead of dreaming about having 20k to install one

Cummins Wrangler? Jk...

I've had a lot of friends say they'd buy a Jeep if it had a Hemi.

For $6k put in a RIPP supercharger. That's probably about how much more it would've cost to get a factory Hemi anyway. By the time you cover 100k supercharged miles, the Jeep will be 10 years old and you'll have a decade's worth of used hemis to pick from and stay street legal. Problem solved.

It's the towing weight, tongue weight is probably 300 lbs or something like that.

That picture has inspired me to lift my Jeep and instead of an SYE/CV driveshaft, I am just going to tow a trailer around.

Through your website, under Wrangler Unlimited > Features and Specs >

there
is a picture of a JKU towing a trailer with another, older jeep on it.
Right beside this picture is a chart stating max towing capacity is
3500
pounds. Now I know its an older Jeep, but a new Jeep with more plastic
than metal weighs in at over 3700 pounds. What gives? Vince Krause

Ah, come on. Some of you folks have worked for big companies. They hire marketing firms and advertising firms and web design firms. Plus there are layers of lawyers.

Someone in marketing liked that image (it's a good one, it shows heritage and continuity of design from old Wranglers to new). So they used it. I would guess they never thought about it exceeding the towing limit. Heck, I'd even guess they've never thought about things like towing limits EVER. These are marketing people. They're into weird facial hair and funny glasses (disclosure: I just got a new pair of glasses. Really uber cool).

Tow limits are complicated as all hell. It involves lawyers, competitive claims, marketing claims, and other nonsese. There's a movement to get the truck amkers to use "real" numbers. So far, only Toyota has signed on, and their tow ratings just went down. Think Chevy, Dodge and Ford want to risk that?

Good point. I guess the only way to find out is to purchase a Wrangler and try it.

Since the official website portays it happening, the salesman would probably tell you it could happen, and customer service denies any knowledge of it, you are on your own.

Look at the website again. I'd like to direct your attention to the caption below that picture:

http://www.jeep.com/en/2011/wrangler/capability/towing/

Tow Some Fun
Wrangler's are ideal for towing behind RVs because their two-speed transfer case has a Neutral that minimizes wear and tear to the drive system.

I think they got the wrong picture there, or whoever designed the website thinks the JKU is a Winnebago.

EDIT: Come to think of it, maybe there is only one Wrangler in the picture, after all.
