JK 2 door or JK 4 door?

What is the difference between the 2 wranglers? I know some info. but was seeing wat real owners have to say. Does it meet ur standards for day to day use and off road usage. I own a 2 door tj but is saving money for a new one. I just cant decide on the 2 door or the 4 door. Thanks!!

The 4-door weighs a lot more, obviously, but has a better breakover angle. The 2-dr will turn tighter.

You can put 2.5 kids and the dog in the 4-dr comfortably; the 2-dr will hold y'all, too, but more like sardines.

***WARNING*** If you ever, EVER, have the need to put any type of infirm geezer in the back of your Jeep, DO NOT ATTEMPT with a 2-door. The fold & tumble seats will invariably snap back and smash em in the most brittle, easily broken section of their anatomy, and you will smoke a turd in Hell for being such a putz. ***END WARNING***

The 2-door is a classic; the 4-door saved Jeep.

Some 4-doors, especially those with color-matched fenders and roof, can look kinda like Hummers. Sad.

It's really an easy decision; which one are you in love with?

I know your going to get "it depends on your taste" comments, however, i bought a 2 door after driving the 4 door...I liked the 4 however i simply prefer the 2 door. I actually have a 13 and an 8 year old and the 2 works great for us. I think for me it came down to what feels more like my old jeep (84 CJ7) and the two door simply won out for me.

Well that would take all the entertainment out of it.....

Agreed. Jeep was doing fine without the 4 door. Nothing wrong with the 4 door, but the 2 door IS Jeep!!!!!!!

I think the big difference is not the number of doors but the number of seats. The 2-door seats four, the 4-door seats five. So if you need seating for five you have to get the 4-door. I have a wife and two kids, so the 2-door was all I ever looked at. The 2-door soft top is the classic Jeep and that is all I ever wanted. But I do understand folks who need that extra seat and still want a Jeep.

The 4DR has a longer wheel base and is a more comfortable ride. Saying that, The 2DR has tighter turning radius and a bounce in its step.. Preference is in the eye of the beholder!

The 4 door was for me as I have had 2 door 4x4s in the past and I like having those rear doors. I may not have ever gotten a Jeep if they did not come out with the 4 door. I strongly stress the May Not but the 4 doors sealed the deal.

Our two sons are in college so when my wife and I looked at the 2 and 4 door Wranglers, it was no contest...........2 door without question!

Simple-

2drs are for groupees

4drs are for mature adults !

I can't see why anbody would have any problem with that !

That point could be argued and I'll agree with KB that it did help make the brand more mainstream and increase sales.

In terms of which is better, I actually own both. My Wife has the 4-door Sahara and I have a 2-door Rubicon. They both cost about the same (The sahara was about $180 more) but are night/day in terms of handling. Taking into account that mine has stiffer springs the shorter lighter body does whip around much easier and faster then the 4-door. Its much more nimble overall and IMO more fun to drive. I also have two boys (11 & 9) and I can tell you that it is a pain to have them climb in/out of my Jeep. Although they never complain (They think mine is cooler looking and love swinging on the grab handles when climbing in the back) they are more comfortable in the 4-door. You can fit 3 adults in the 4-door and only Two normal sized adults in the 2-door. Also, cargo space is a major concern, We have a hard time going food shopping in my Jeep opposed to hers. With the rear seat up the cargo space is ridiculously small on the 2-door and that is really the only thing I regret when comparing the two Jeeps. Other than that, I love my 2-door Rubicon and would never trade it in for a 4-door.

Real easy---Unlimited (4 door) larger fuel tank and rides better on highway due to longer wheel base. 2-door more nimble, tighter turning radius, and lighter and better as a wheeling vehicle. Depends on what you're going to use it for.

I would not say the 4 door saved the wrangler but it sure helped sales.
And JB give me some credit, on my 3rd 2 door. I think I graduated the apprentice program :P

I've had both ,the 2door was a lot of fun but rough to ride in being short wheel base & a little more un-nerving on rock climbs. The 4 door is great on the comfort side, has room for a lot more stuff & dogs, also is better on to climb steep stuff.
But they are both Jeeps so whats not to like

All depends on your use and needs. I have a daughter and a great dane... to carry both at the same time required the 4 door. I think it rides better especially on the highway. However if I didnt have a kid and a giant dog, the 2 door would be the way I would go. Especially if its not your daily driver.

I'm surprised more 2dr owners weren't offended, not that I've ever done that-

We only have one 8 year old but two Brazilian Mastiffs. I could never shove them all into a 2 door to get to a vet appointment unless I got a small horse trailer to drag them around in.

i have 08 4 door and 12 2 door, the choice is actually pretty simple, if you are going to have back seat passengers often, get the 4 door, if you now or ever see yourself towing a boat, camper, ect, get the 4 door. other than that, the 2 door should be fine.

MY ACTUAL choice of the 4dr was-

Many years of 4x4 pickups and I wanted the cargo space/camping equip/overlanding supplies/freeway travel/towing trailer/less roll/flip danger and--

My wife and I can sleep in the back comfortably !!
