JK 4 door diesel - cooling fan

Anyone give me advice on the cooling fan on my JK 2.8 CRD diesel please?

Recently noticed fan seems to be running all the time. Looks like its a hydrostatic coupled fan and I don't know whether its meant to run all the time or just when it gets hot. I've never noticed it humming away before, although weather is a bit warmer now than it has been.
If it is only meant to cut in when its hot, what I don't understand is why the fan is running when I start it first thing in the morning - presumably the engine is fairly cool at that time having been sitting in the garage unused all night.
Anyone know how its meant to be operating and whether it sounds like I've got a fault here or not?

Thanks, Johnny

First of all I am jelous you get the diesel over there and we dont.... I don't believe it should run all the time, so it could be a couple of things... the temp sensor that triggers the relay or the fan relay itself. Dont know what they all do, but take a look under the hood and swap a relay with another that may seem "unimportant" for a quick test and start her up.

Just a thought, you said it's been warmer. If you are running the a/c the fan will be
engaged. Also if you are running the defront fan will be engaged. like i said just a thought.

my answer is based on my cummins 5.9. as near as i could tell, the fan was always on. behind the radiator was the turbo intercooler and ac condenser. turbos build up heat fast, even when engine is cold which is why fan came on at start up. went so far as to have a 5 minute timer installed so fan would stay on after engine was turned off as to help turbo cool down. I think you only have to worry when fan doesn't come on. again this answer is based on my cumins turbo diesel, i have no experience with jeep diesels. hope this helps and i an still green with envy.

I was trying to learn more on the configuration over there and the Wrangler in the UK has the 2.8L short stroke CRD, the same that we could get in the Liberty here I believe, which still uses the electric fan.... the 5.9 Cummins was a "medium duty" motor, capable of pulling the a house off it's foundation.... I could sweat that the cooling fan on my Dodge 3500 was big enough to cause it to take flight. Also if my memory server the Dodge CTD was direct connected so it would come on at engine start.... but i have been wrong before....
