JK Altitude 2012 Logo Decal photos

After purchasing my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Altitude I was a little dismayed to see that while Jeep had done such as great job of styling the vehicle they had neglected to brand the Altitude with any unique badging. I mean the Sahara has its gold emblem, the 70th anniversary and COD's get an awesome badge and the Rubicons have pretty sick lettering... so what about the Altitude?? I was searching this board and found that other members had the same questions so I went about designing my own complimentary Altitude badging. This post shows the design process and my humble submission of the final design in place.

First off I reviewed the Altitude lettering as used by Jeep on their own Website. I traced the lettering to exact specifications and added an original piece of art (mountains) to the top of the letters which was inspired by the Altitude theme as well as the trail rated badge. I went through several versions (which can be seen at this post) and used fellow members reviews to guide the final design (thanks specifically to Johnny Vintage, Deepjeep1371 and raythom3). I settled on two designs, one with filled letters and one without.

Jeep Wrangler Altitude website with OEM lettering

My final design (with gradient to match OEM) as mocked up on Deep Cherry Red Background

The filled letters were my preference but after having it printed on clear vinyl I was less then impressed by the translation of the gradient. I also didn't like the clear vinyl edges and center fills. I spoke with Don at PixelDecals.com about cutting them from vinyl and he was pretty informative so I thought I'd give it a shot. The results are attached as placed on my Deep Cherry Red Altitude.

I had them printed on reflective black vinyl and I am more then impressed with the results. As you can see the lettering is subtle but nicely present in the shade but when a flash of light (headlights, camera flash, sunbeam etc) hits it the logo really pops out. Again, not in your face, but a really nice feature I think.

If you like this design and would like it for your Altitude you can order it from PixelDecals.com here. I am in no way affiliated with them and I'm not taking a cut from the logos... I figure it's just good karma to pass on something I've enjoyed working on.

No camera flash

Logo flash visible as it sits in the carpark

I've also been asked if the logo could be applied to wheel covers etc... So yes, go for it. Don't however download the images from my posts, they're very low resolution and wouldn't print well. Instead just download the attached PDF which will scale to whatever size you like. If you have it printed and it looks nice please post an image!

Next up I'm looking into having Stainless steel (or billet) badges created based on this logo (it would actually be the reverse where the black areas would be polished and the transparent would be black enamel). They'll likely be pretty expensive so the decals at $13 a pair are a pretty good option for now.

Cheers for a great forum people, and thanks for the input that helped me design the decals

Looks great. I've ordered the black decal for my white Altitude. I should get them later this week and get them on by the weekend. I'll try to post pictures asap. I'm thinking the white showing through the top should look just like snow! Thanks for taking the time to put all this together and to Pixeldecals!!

Great job, thanks I have ordered them and looking forward to the new look of my jeep and taking it to the dealer and saying this is the way it should have been sold.

Very nice! I like it a lot. Much like you, I added a Rubicon-ish hood decal for my Actic. The results can be seen over in the Arctic's only thread. Just did it tonight and it turned out perfect in my opinion. I used pixel decals as well. Top notch work.

I received mine yesterday and installed them last night. I had them done in reflective black.

They look black in the day but at night when a light is shined on them they are a bright silver. My wife pointed out that it's an exact match to the Altitude wheels. Only thing is that I got the early version and my mountains are not filled in. Just the outline of the mountain tops. Still looks cool though.

I might order a set of the final version too. At 13 bucks for a custom decal, that's a smoking deal!!

Thanks so much for coming up with this design.

Great work, thanks for doing this for all to use. One question, is the version he has now on the site the revised and newest version? Or will he offer both versions. I just want the latest version you show in your pics. (the unfilled version, I guess) Thanks for the shout out! ;-)

Hey guys, thanks for all the great feedback. I had a couple of PM's and questions so I'll clarify what I realize wasn't exactly clear in my OP.

GRADIENT (FILLED) VERSION

This is the decal that I worked the most on and is featured in the original thread where I was mocking up what was to be the final design. It features the mountains inside the lettering reproduced as faithfully as possible to the OEM logo as appears on their website. I did not choose this logo for final production as the gradient does not translate to a solid medium like cut vinyl, the only way to reproduce it is to print it onto clear vinyl, and I just didn't like the look of the excess material... not tough enough.

This version however would look awesome on a wheel cover or similar SOLID element where transparency is not required, feel free to download the pdf and use it in whatever way you like. Again, I do not recommend this version for side panel decals and it is not available commercially anywhere that I am aware of.

NON-GRADIENT VERSION

This is the logo as seen on my Altitude above the Wrangler logos. I removed the gradient from the lettering so we could cut clear crisp lines from vinyl. I opted to leave the letters knocked out as I didn't want it to be screaming "Altitude" in your face, but when it's noticed it really stands out. I love how the cars color is allowed through the lettering.

This is what I now consider my 'final' design and I've allowed Don at PixelDecals to list it for sale on his site... just choose your vinyl color and you're good to go. Get it here. Again, I'm not making $$ on this, he just passed my quality control so I'm happy to recommend his work.

Hope this clears up some questions and thanks for all your awesome comments!

Peel the white backing paper off, position the decal in the right place and smooth it on from one side to the other (no bubbles) then carefully peel the front wax paper off leaving only the decal behind.

I'm scared......... Thanks though. I'm thinking of finding a good measuring point and using blue painters tape as a point of reference. They got to be straight! I'm ocd.

An alcohol swab wouldn't go astray, it'll help it stick much better.

Ok, well done.
Now what else have you done (or going to do) for your Altitude? You can't stop now!

New headlight bulbs (Phillips)
Rugged ridge taillight covers
Led interior lights
Grill inserts (diy) style
Jeep door sills
MORE Dead Pedal
Antenna X
All little stuff but all cool. Oh yeah........ Altitude Decals!

well, those are all nice. I'm going to look into the LED interior lights and door sills. I bought the little 5" Stubby Antenna, but it does not pickup Dallas FM (120 miles away), so I'm probably going to the Antenna X or the Big Stick.
My best bang for the buck has been the new horns. Haven't installed my dead pedal yet, but will this weekend.
What my biggest challenge is is selecting and installing a backup floodlight. My NavTV camera is not much use at night with stock backup lighting. Leaning toward Rigid SRM2's with a 3 way switch.

I did a little research on this a while ago and found out that after some time Jeep /Chrysler will have the numbers. I would think by now they would know. Might be time to call them and check.....

4,500 Altitudes were made, 500 of them were 2 doors and they all went to Canada, so yes, they are rare !
But then again it's just a trim package, just sayin

I just ordered a reflective black pair for my silver 2012 JKU. Great job on the design, bold but not cheesy. Hope they get here ASAP!
