Arrow JK Flag decal...

Looking for some suggestions.... Thinking about getting my local graphics shop to make two of these in flat black for the sides of my jeep. Tell me what you think.

Make sure you get the orientation of the flag correct. Union (blue field) should be toward the front of the Jeep on each side. The design you posted would be for the drivers side only.

It will be close to the original jk decals size, and yes the union will be corrected for the passenger side. Thanks for the replies.

i thought that the field of stars is always supposed to be in the upper left hand corner whether flag is in the horizontal or vertical display position, above design would be correct as stated w/ stars towars front fender, and on passenger side the stars field would abut the front edge of the passenger side front door

I'd love to make my own, I just can't come up with any good ideas that I think would look good. The thing is my jeep needs some flat black decals to brake up all the mango tango..... This seems to be the best idea I had. Post up some ideas for me if you have any.

I'll have to brake out my USAF PDG to verify the union position.

Either way is correct. You can go stars forward or stars in the upper left. It used to drive me nuts seeing flag decals on the right side of vehicles with the the stars in the "rear". I thought it always had to be stars forward on vehicles. Turns out I was wrong and either way is correct.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
Display on vehicles and uniforms

When the flag is affixed to the side of a vehicle, it should be oriented so that the union is towards the front. This is done to give the impression that the flag is blowing backwards from its hoist as the vehicle moves forward. Therefore, U.S. flag decals on the right sides of vehicles may appear to be "reversed", with the union to the observer's right instead of left as more commonly seen.

This is from www.USHistory.org
To wear our country's flag properly, the field of stars is worn closest to your heart. Further, when worn on the sleeve of a military uniform, the flag should appear to be advancing and not retreating. Thus, if your patch is to be worn on your LEFT sleeve, use a left flag (normal). For patches worn on your RIGHT sleeve, use a "right" or "reversed field" flag.

Since the Flag Rules do not specifically address the positioning of the patch, a decision is left to the discretion of the organization prescribing the wear. Some elect to use the "left" flag on both sleeves. [Note: many states and cities have ordinances pertaining to the use of the flag; you may wish to contact the Attorney General of your state or the City Attorney's office regarding this matter.] If you are planning to wear only one patch, it is recommended that you wear a "left" flag on your left sleeve.

Military guidelines specify that in support of joint or multi-national operations (as in Afghanistan), the "right" flag is worn on the right sleeve (see picture), 1/4" below the shoulder seam or 1/8" below any required unit patches. (Class A uniform excepted.)

Some people find the "right flag" disrespectful of the flag and some are calling it the "wrong flag." They seek to gain support to encourage a change in the regulations to always use a "left flag" even on a right sleeve. Source: US Army FAQ's

"Original JK decal size?" Be careful, I could be wrong, but I believe there may be a copyright on that because that JK decal is the logo for JK Forum.

If you change the logo 20% your good. If you just add the flag thats a copy right infringement. But that only means you can't sell them and will most likely get banned by them. But then you can get this decal

The new plan is to purchase the JK decal and match the flag to it. That shouldn't make any waves with anybody.

I'm with UHB on this one. I'm retired USAF and I still work for DoD. I've never seen a military uniform with the Union in the upper left when on a vehicle or uniform sleeve. It represents the flag flying in the wind, so the Union is towards the front.

I will admit the flat black would look clean. Unfortunately you'd be screwing around with the red, white & blue. Not good.

The flag is black and green on military camo uniforms.

Check out pixeldecals.com They have the subdued flags. I have them on my all black Rubicon and they look sharp.

Which branch of service? Not Army. Army Regulation 670-1, para 28-18:
28–18. Wear of full-color U.S. flag cloth replica

a. General. All soldiers throughout the Force, regardless of deployment status, will wear the full-color U.S. flag cloth replica on utility and organizational uniforms.
b. Description. The colors of the U.S. flag cloth replica are red, white, and blue. The size is approximately 2 inches by 3 inches.
c. How worn.
(2) The full-color U.S. flag cloth replica is worn so that the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward. The appropriate replica for the right shoulder sleeve is identified as the reverse side flag.

You're missing the 'red' stripe at the bottom.

Go to Welcome to Fortec, Inc. and give them a call about their American Flag decals. They dont have them listed online but they do have them. $5 a pair they charged me.

They are also silver, to match the Wrangler Unlimited decals.

Air Force. Maybe the reg you are referencing for "utility" uniforms are not the camo fighting uniforms worn in the field? I don't see why a camo uniform would have a bright red, white, and blue patch on it. I understand it is the flag, but I'd take a camo flag over getting spotted and shot anyday.

I like the design, Litton. As another post said, just don't make it too big.

I bought the dark grey flag decals from pixeldecals. Peeled off the Wrangler decals, and replaced it with the flag on each front fender. Looks great on my '11 JK, which is silver pearl.

Not to put too fine a point on the other topics inherant to your thread, I believe you are fine displaying a single-color flag on your Jeep. AR 670-1 pertains only to garrison and dress uniforms. The only time I saw full color US flags on BDUs or ACUs was when they were worn CONUS, or at a HQ somewhere. I still have the subdued US flags issued to me for wear on the ACU shoulder, and also on the front top of our plate carriers (body armor). We were issued both flags for right and left shoulder wear (union to the front on either side, as per the US Code).
