Howdy!
Going to get my bright white 2014 JK grille LineX'd black with UV top coat this week. I was curious if folks who have done this removed all of the clips, turn signal lenses, and specifically the weather stripping from the grille prior to having it lined. If so, where did you pick up a new weatherstripping and how did you re-apply it? Pics would be great too! Thanks!
When I had mine done they told me that on plastic they can't leave any edges like they can on metal so they had to spray the hole grill .. I'm not sure if that's true but the place I had mine done said that's the only way it can be done. You can prob save the weather stripping and get some BA double sided tape but I just ordered on from the dealer . So expect to do a little grinding to get the turn signal lenses in .. It's not a big deal just take your time and do a little bit at a time.. You'll be very happy after you get it on..

Thanks Supperfast, this is all very helpful info! I do have a couple of follow-up questions, if you would be so kind:
1. Do you happen to have the part number for the grille weather stripping?
2. Do you recall how much the weather stripping cost?
3. Any tips on re-installing the weather strip?
4. What did you use to grind the turn signal lenses?
5. Did you remove and re-install the Jeep emblem, or mask it?
The rubber hood seal (2014 JK): 55397279AB
Picked up for $29.99 on quadratec. This piece is a pain to remove only because it leaves behind a horrible rubber adhesive mess.
I seem to recall there's a company out there that will send you one already done and you ship your grill to them to keep. Don't recall who or the price but that's likely the route I'll go.
Also I had to do some grinding on mine to get the turn signals to fit. And the holes on top had to be opened up for the push pins . So you may not be able to install it in the parking lot.
No. It requires special equipment since its sprayed on at 2000 PSI, mixes specially, and is preheated to 160*.
But yes we do fenders and what not. I sprayed my fenders. Undercoating is tough since the vehicle has to be torn apart (body off) and be flipped over. I dont reccomend spraying axles.
Sweet. I love the texture on it. I have had mine plastidipped for awhile and want to get this done now. The grilie is light. Tell them to start a mail in mail out service.
If you're worried you may not like it, you can always find a cheap on at salvage or craigslist and line that one. I bought one for $25 and herculined it. Figured if I didn't like it I could always go back to OEM in less than 5 minutes.
I finally had time to pick up a grille off kijiji today. Nice and cheap, and it's off a 2014 to boot. I've got to find a line-x dealer in the area, and see what they want to spray it. Anyone know a ballpark cost to get it done? I'm going to keep the gecko grille, I think it will look good in my future bar downstairs..lol
I am about to do mine with this and was wondering about that seal. I may tape off the rubber and paint around it making sure to get right up to it or may a little on to it at the base. I could tear it off and get a new one or some 3m double sided tape and attach afterward.
I may go for this mod in the next couple weeks but before that I will request a quote with the local LineX, I may consider doing my bumpers too... Do you think it will hold?
I'm not sure about flexing plastic with it on stock bumpers. It's smoother than line-X. Almost like grip tape on a skateboard but with finer grit and smoother to the touch. Reminds me of powder coating. If you have steel bumpers it may be ok. Bumper may take a beating and lineX may be better for that. Good thing is it's cheap and easy to touch up. Don't have to be an airbrush artist to make it look good either as its texture is forgiving.
Actually my plan is to install the following VDP High Clearance caps this or next weekend, and I was planing on using the Home Depot Bedliner spray since I don't want them to have a different color the stock bumpler plastic and the caps. This is besides the grill that I've always love how it looks.
