JK Lift vs. Front Drive Shaft

I gather that lifting a 4-door JK with an automatic transmission causes problems with the front drive shaft (re: AEV Forum and JK Forum)

How much can the 4-door JK be lifted before this is a problem??

p.s. I know I drive a TJ, but I'm researching my options LOL My TJ.

You can have rub as low as 2" with full flex and swaybars disconnected. The easy fix is a new auto trans skid- that's your big problem. The OEM one is garbage anyways- Mark W.

So the actual rub point for the drive shaft is the OEM auto-transmission skid plate?

I went up 2.5" in the front and didnt have any rubbing yet. I was just underneath the jeep yesterday looking for any marks or a tear in the boot, nothing yet.

The skid plate or the exhaust. If you're hitting the exhaust, you need either custom exhaust or a new DS. Hopefully it's just the auto trans skid- Mark W.

I talked to some one at AEV about that same issue cause I am looking at the AEV 3.5" or 4.5" premium kits for my 2010 when I get home from the sand box, A.K.A Afghanistan. He said the front drive shaft hits the auto trans skid plate under full flex and the install instructions call for leaving it off after the install is complete. So I agree with Mark, and aftermarket skid plate would probably do it. Or a smaller diameter drive shaft.

I got 4" of lift on my 4 door auto and I havent had any issues. I dont flex it out often though either so keep that in mind.
