I see a lot regarding storage for windows for JKUs but how about 2 door storage? I want to be able to take my windows with me in case of a storm pops up. What are your suggestions?
I have found that all three of the windows fit in the seat when it is folded completely forward. If you put the rear window bar facing down and the side windows on top of that the seat should fold forward. This is how I usually travel.
If you have the top folded back and the backseat up, you can unclip the backseat and move it forward a little bit. Then slide the three windows between the seat and the folded top standing up in a landscape position. Then pull the seat back and clip into position. The seat ends up holding the windows snug in their position. They wont fly out or take up any cargo space.
Do you put anything between the windows like a fleece towel so they won't rub together or does it matter? Also, if you travel no windows and just the top on, this won't work...correct?
So far, best deal I have gotten. I store both the upper halves, rear quarters and the back window in it. (The back has to be folded, but it's not a tight fold were it would crease) If it looks like it might rain, I just throw it in the back and all the windows are there.
For the side windows I use some extra bed top sheets - 2 of them, could probably fit the rear in there but I like to roll convenience (and happily pay the wrinkle scratch price). Then if I want to take them with I roll up and put in a pillow case and throw behind the seat or into the Tuffy trunk (just fits nice width wise in there).
I use a couple of towels with the windows layered in between. Roll them up and slide the roll into a camping chair tote bag and use the handle of the bag to sling it over the passenger seat back. Just bought hubby his own JK and had to go out and buy a new camp chair for his windows.
How about the rest of us with Trektop NX windows? The sides have that plastic molding to form the back corners and don't seem like they are that easy to store flat. Any ideas?
I made a window roll like those that are available, it is as 'wide' as the rear window + some excess, and as 'tall' as the side windows (the because of the little flap on top that goes over the top of the rollbar, the side windows are a bit taller than normal).
I take the windows off, pull the plastic out of the corners, stack the 2 plastic parts, pull the tailgate bar off the rear window, then I put the rear window and side windows in my roll (separated by fabric) and roll them up.
I stow my side windows in between back seat n folded down top. They remain standing fairly well. Rear window I roll up n hang from straps on the frame supports. I fold the top down rt on top of the rolled window. I've heard u can get scratched on window from the straps but mine are still fine. All the marks on my rear window are in the middle. When I run sun rider mode I unzip from rt to left n lay window into trunk area. When time comes to rezip window it often folds in half, coming to a point that rubs on back of rear seat. I have many scuffs/scratches from this process
I dropped my top down for the weekend this morning. Then while at Dick's Sporting Goods for camping supplies, I found this sports bag in the baseball/softball section for $19. It's the perfect length, and size for all three windows, rolled up in a small thin cloth (layered to protect each window). It even has a separate pocket on the bottom that could hold the tailgate bar if you take it out. I leave mine in and with the tailgate closed, it's not a problem. I then used the carrying straps and looped them around the top, and tucked it underneath next to the tailgate. :thumb:
I see that the bag is only 35'' long. The rear window is about 45'' at the bottom I believe and with the bar attached it's about 49'' long. How can that fit all of the windows?
I slide the bar out of the back window. It allows for it to be easily rolled. You can put it back in place and close the tailgate to hold it in, or the bag has an out side zippered pocket (for bats), that you can slide it into. It would stick out some, just like carrying a softball bat in that bag would. With just the windows, it works great for a place to stash them.
You have to check out the WindowVault... it is new and the solution everyone has been waiting for. No need to lay down layers of fabric on the ground for storing your windows.... or leaving them at home with the chance of getting caught in the rain.
The company that makes Grabars just launched this wonderful solution.... Link below:

For back window, I roll up with the tailgate bar attached and leave hang from factory straps. I found that it is much more rigid and the window doesn't get as wrinkled after extended periods of (being rolled) dry weather. Sides get rolled and thrown in back under the rest of top that is dropped.
The only problem with the rolls is that for the Trektop NX side windows they have to be rolled top/bottom due to ridged bottom trim piece and this makes them too wide to lay across the back without hanging over, as my memory serves me. Plastic slides can be removed from back edges of side windows.
I roll my trektop NX windows front to back (after removing the rear plastic stiffeners). I've noticed the plastic part that tucks in to the bottom is pretty stiff, but I've never really handled a factory soft top side window to offer a comparison.
Those bottom rigid pieces on the side windows roll up nicely in the Jeeptopsusa window roll. Rolling them up hasn't cause them to kink so far. You really cannot roll the side windows up cross ways due to the rigid plastic channel that attaches to the door jamb. The back window bottom piece is removed from that window and is stored in the tube that the other three Windows roll around.
It's an excellent storage solution. I'm glad I bought it...worth every penny.
I have a roll up bag I got for for mine. It works fine and then stick the windows on the floorboard behind the front seats. I rarely have the rear seat in at all. And never had an issue.
I have the NX top. I take off the windows and kinda fold them in half diagonally. Roll up the rear window but never unzip it. fold the whole thing down into the trunk. the windows fit with plenty of room and i can squeeze the 2 piece soft doors back there was well. This way i can stop and put the entire top up doors and all if it starts to rain
