Smile JK Purchase :)

Thanks for the amazing support and insight everyone....

Tonight, Ok, guys I pulled the trigger (left a deposit and initial a sales order) on a Brand new JK Unlimited 4-door Rubicon with:

-Dual Tops
-NAVI system
-Tow Package
-Remote Start
-Side-Air Bags
-4 speed auto (didn't have any handshakers)

all of this for $29k out the door. I thought this was truly a decent price. Plus, I get to support my local economy. I built this exact car on jeep.com tonight and even with the EPP and the $1k regional discount, it came to ~31,6k --- so I figured it was a pretty decent deal. It seems like a loaded truck, and I think these things are standing still on the lot.....figured they didn't have much in there to negotiate on the price, so I didn't really haggle with them.

I am doing the deal on Monday, so perhaps I will have some pics for you by then.

Questions???
Anything I should make sure I ask for or is shown to me before I drive off?
(i.e. --- vacuum/detail/full tank of gas, explain how the NAVI, hardtop removal is done, etc.... should I ask for any freebies or toss-ins for the deal, like floormats or something?) ---

I was shocked how smoothly it drove, as my last Jeep was a 77 CJ7 which rode like a 6x6 Deuce.....

I have never purchased a new vehicle in my life, but I figured I couldn't go too wrong on the price and the warranty (including lifetime powertrain to original owner) --- Thoughts?

Thanks so much!!!!!

My thought is your going to love it, you'll lose sleep thinking about it right outside and you'll love it again when you wheel it.

Post up some pic's!

Hi Andy,

That purchase price seems pretty sweet. The options look like a nice package. Can't wait to see some pictures.

I agree that the ride is pretty nice compared to older jeeps. It is one of the things that helped me decide.

Darn tootin about the waiting part. I don't know how you are going to stand it. Ive actually been known to do extra errands for the wife, drive her places, etc. One of the guys I worked with last summer accused me of always taking the more rugged paths through the camp I managed. This summer the whole camp is out in the boonies. Dirt roads and logging roads all over the place. Just think if you had that to look forward to in your jeep. You may even look for excuses to get out into the woods. The list goes on. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine.

Cheers

question on the NAVI unit....
I see a USB port ---- So is MYGIG extra for my option setup? What about the uConnect phone, it says that is not available when I click on the phone button.....Can I add it? (for bluetooth or voice-activation etc....???)

Bumper - Was thinking about getting the Purejeep Stubby Crawler unit for the front.
Good idea? dont like the plastic.....

Mods already and I haven't even got the thing home.... :P

Mats --- does WeatherTech make mats for the JKs??? I have always liked their quality in my other cars.....

I think I am really going to LOVE it....I am very happy & honored to have this chance.
Thanks for the warm welcome and reception here at WF ---

Cheers,
Andy

The dealer should explain all that (mine did), not that I was hearing him, I wanted him to shut up and let me drive the car for once (I wated it 2 moths, and actually came 2 moths earlier than the esimated time). And once I got in I instantly loved it (I didn,t test drive it before buyng). So now when i have questions, I look into the manual, it is really well done, so far no unclear things.
The floormats came as a gift, so did some other goodies (some tools), I didn't ask for. The only thing I asked and got was the particles filter for free (about 600Euro, so that was good).

I think I am going to ask them to toss in the hardtop storage bag for the Freedom Top.
I am not sure if that is something they would consider or not..... All I can do is ask.

mishel,
How much more are the JK models in Europe? What did you pay for your Jeep?

Hey Andy- it sounds like you already stole the car. Don't bug them for anything more- do the right thing and add them to the deal so your salesman makes a buck on it I HIGHLY reccommend the slush mats- they're not much $, and do a good job on keeping things clean. A rubber mat for the cargo area is a solid idea as well- Mark W.

Mine is a 2 door automatic model, I paid for it in august last year 41000 Euro (including all taxes) (with the extra options of dual top, navigation system and "electrical closures")

I don't know if the presence of USB means you have mygig or not. I do have it and have the port. To use the hard drive to play music I access the feature by pushing the hard button on the left in the middle that is labeled radio/media. While in that mode you can use the soft buttons on the screen to access the USB port to import music. I haven't used this feature yet but am looking forward to trying it out.

My dealer says that it is available as an ad-on feature. He said he didn't recommend it because there is too much electronic noise in the car and isn't very effective.

This is a mod that I may eventually make. I would be looking for better hooks. The squareness of the stock hooks seems to be counter to how I think a hook should be shaped so as to not cut into a fiber tow strap. I would be inclined to purchase one with a winch on it.

Isn't it fun just imagining the possibilities? Part of the fun of ownership.

I was just on a site here that offers the Weathertech line and has mats for the newer jeep models. They seem pretty pricy. I had a set of mats that I purchased for my Caravan and I kept the cargo area mat before I traded it in for the jeep. It fits the cargo area very well. Carpet on one side and rubberized flex plastic on the other. It was well worth the purchase price many years ago at about $20.00

Sounds like you are really enjoying the purchase experience. I did too. And I'm really enjoying the ownership experience too. I hope yours is similar.

WF has been very helpful and many times entertaining too. People have been very friendly and helpful. It is what keeps me coming back. Thanks WF and contributers.

Funny, dealer called me back today and is asking me for a deposit for the truck. The sales guy asked for a deposit yesterday and I handed him my AMEX card and said "Not a problem", he took the card and them came back 3 minutes later and said, "Don't worry about it....I don't need a deposit from you to hold this" --- Today, he called asking for the deposit again!!! ???? I told him that I was out of town until Sunday, and I would be in on Monday to close the deal. (which is what the precise plan was when I left the dealership yesterday)

He said his manager was pushing for him to get a deposit. I asked to speak to him and then told the manager the story about giving the CC to the sales guy who calmly returned and gave it back to me...I said this, "I gave your sales guy my CC yesterday and he returned and said not to worry about a deposit and I am currently out of town as explained yesterday. Bottom-line, I don't waste people's time. I give you my word that I will be there Monday between 4:30-5:00 to wrap this up....If this is not good enough, then go ahead and sell the truck if you need to."

He replied in a shaken stuttering manner and said, "No, that would be fine...we just wanted to get everything ready....ahem...sure....truck cleaned....you know..."

I am not sure about this tactic. I understand the tire-kickers and time-wasters in the biz....but with a company in bailout position, I would think they would show much higher regard and respect for their customers.....Am I off base about this? I am not upset, just thought the timing was bad.....is this like a sales quota thing or something???? Was he wrong for not getting a deposit and why not get one when I have him the CC?

Thanks.
Andy

Nah- not to worry. The salesman builds a relationship with the customer. The sales manager has only SOME chance to chat with you (if at all, depending on the dealership), so he doesn't know you from some bum off the street. He doesn't know if you're committed and have the credit to seal the deal, or anything like that. He just wants the $500 or whatever as a commitment from you to make sure you're not going somewhere else to buy, because until you take delivery, they have no commitment from you beyond your word, which, in this day and age, isn't much from many people.
Don't think of it as a ploy or anything. Besides, more down payment=less financed=less $ out of your pocket over time It is strange your salesman didn't take a deposit- I do whenever I can. Maybe he didn't know how to work the credit card machine?

Responding to jk'n and your above post, the MyGig should be included in the Navi radio. The navi-compatible head units all have Mygig. uConnect, however, may not be- it's only ~$100 to install, however, it's not ELECTRONIC noise that MAY negate its value, it's wind, tire, and traffic noise in a Wrangler that may make it less useful than in, say, a Grand Cherokee. For the $, though, it's not a bad thing to have, especially in states like NY where it's illegal to drive while on your cell phone.

Hope this all helps Cheers, and congrats again, man! Can't wait to see pics! Mark W.

haha dealerships are the funniest f' in people none of them communicate to each other whats goin on. I couldn't tell you what they are up to but i can tell you my story so you can laugh at it to.

I brought in an 06 GT mustang with 26k on it told em i wanted the wrangler x unlimited in the lot that has the 4" lift and 35" tires on it they came back to me with 7500 down and my payments would be just shy of 800 bucks a month with the trade in. " Brand new Jeep btw" they litarally kept the keys to my mustang in the sales managers office while they worked the deal so i couldnt drive off. everytime i tried to walk out they said wo wo wo what number are you haveing a problem with? i said i dont want to pay over 500 a month and down payment no way im puttin that much down. all said and down i walked out at just shy of 600 with 0 down and 4.7% financing. not to mention because of the lift the credit union said no way after the dealer preapproved me so i had to go back and resign papers after they lowered the price of the jeep 2k so they would approve it so dealer got the shaft !!!!

Hah- I used to work at a dealership like that. I hated it. But I had fun pissing my sales managers off by working my own deals and making decent money when they were taking losses on half the deals THEY wrote ^
Glad to hear you got your deal, sir Mark W.

I know I heard him say something about noise but must of missed that it was acoustic noise. That would make sense in a jeep. I didn't go with it when he said it didn't work good.

When my windows are down which is most of the time in the summer, I never bother to answer my phone because I can't hear it anyway. So far Mass. doesn't have a cell phone law. Connecticut does. When I cross the line I don't touch it unless I pull over. Never for outgoing calls while I'm moving. Just incoming.

My sales guy (who has been a Wrangler owner for life) said much the same thing about the Uconnect. When I asked about when the top was up/windows up, he confirmed that it works just fine. So for my $100, I'm going to get it. I don't yap on the phone a ton, but I love the BT feature on my wife's truck.

We are not too far from each other I live just off of exit 3 of the mass pike (Route 90). My dealership is Bertera Dodge/Chrysler on Route 20. They have treated me very well before, during, and after the sale. I was not a hard sell.

I think I have passed by your area quite a few times on my way to various places. I have a sister in Ohio and have visited Saratoga Springs a lot for lacrosse tournaments and the lakes area for scouting. Camping at Lake George. Lots of fun in upper state New York.

I've been enjoying your posts. Lots of good information too. I'm going to check out those uber mats for the front. I kind of like the water holding feature. I'm going to be managing a boy scout camp in NH this summer and I tend to get off of the beaten path a lot. In and out of the car with muddy boots, I think those mats will earn their keep.

I might re-visit the feature based on your review in this post. Winters here are long and the feature may be helpful when the solid top is on and the windows up although, I'm much happier starting this time of year.
