JK questions

I will be getting a JKU soon, just have a few questions though. Most likely a 2011, rubi of course though!

Have they fixed the transmission overheating problem?

Trying to decide what level of uconnect to get, either base, or one step up to get the hands free and more importantly the garmin. Is it worth the extra money, and how much info does the vehicle info system touchscreen give, and is it water resistant as such if I get caught in rain it won't ruin it in amount of time it takes me to get top up.

Anything else I should know prior to going in and talking to dealer?

Thanks!

It is my understanding that Chrysler has no clue as to why the overheats happen. The 42RLE has a lot of application across the corp and generally works fine. But it seems that some of them throw the overheat. From what we gather from folks who bothered with scanners and other electronics, there is a link between transmissions that run hot naturally and subsequent overheat. It may be a workmanship quality, or something. Note that 42RLE comes from several factories and only Chrysler has the data on the distribution of reported overheats across VINs and therefore the transmission lots. Basically the properly made one should not overheat and the "hot oil" chime is not necessary.

The top of the line UConnect is awesome and the touchscreen works amazing. The entire media center is in my opinion an amazing asset. I am very glad I got it and I originally went into the dealer with no intentions of getting it. I also asked about water proof and was told try not to get it wet... Not like my old '91 I could hose out.

I made a check list first. Side impact air bags, Uconnect with connectivity group, Dual tops, heated seats, remote start just to name a few.

Good luck!

I don't know about the water resistance but I've got the 430 with the uconnect and it's great for handsfree iphone operation and I can conect via bluetooth and play Pandora or the ipod app through it. The Garmin is the same basic Garmin GPS nav system you would get from any Garmin unit except is does have a Jeep icon

Overall, it's a very nice setup with the u-connect. I'm glad I have it and it was worth it for me.

The 6 speed does not overheat.

We have the 430. Works great. Worth the money. Having a built in Garmin is nice, seemed like the Garmin was always in the wrong vehicle.
