JK rear bumper picture thread

I'm sure there is already a few of these threads but I searched for them and nothing came up. I want to purchase an aftermarket rear bumper in the very near future. I have a few things in mind but I would like to see what aftermarket bumper you guys have on your jeeps.
  • I have been looking heavily at the Ace rear bumper with tire carrier.
  • I'm not really leaning this way but a few of my buddies think I should get the rugged ridge rear bumper to match my front bumper I have on my rig now.
  • I like the teraflex tire carrier and thought about going that route instead of purchasing a tire carrier and bumper combo.

Any thoughts? Any brands I should consider? If you have some cool shots of your bumpers feel free to throw em' up on here! Thanks in advance.

Both of these look good. The poison spyder one was another I have considered. This is going to be a tough decision.

You're right, it seems like every time someone starts a rear bumper thread, it never seems to take off.

I'm running a Bestop Highrock, its not bad but I wish it has its plusses and minuses.

I like it because it opens with the tail gate and it has brackets for my jack, CB antenna and fire extinguisher. I'm a little disapointed in it because it tends to rattle unless I adjust it after every trail run and it has 2 brackets hanging down that keep scraping on the rocks that I think I'll end up cutting off.

I'll be watching this thread as I'm in the market for a rear bumper and tire carrier.

I'll either go Teraflex hinge carrier and separate bumper or a combo bumper/tire carrier.

Thing is, I want the tire carrier to swing out WITH the tailgate. I really don't want to have separate things to move to gain access to the back. It also can't be a ridiculous amount of money.

I've also been digging Genright's aluminum rear bumper. Not sure about the tire carrier though. I like it but it's pretty expensive. Click image for larger version

ID:	436705 I would powder coat it in black though. Try to make it textured like my front bumper and ace rock sliders.

Plus it only weighs 20lbs.

This is similar to what I am going to get for mine. The these photos are from a guy that built one for my Dad's CJ5. He doesn't make them for JK yet but found one very similar from another guy in Michigan. Nates4x4.com

They have a roller that should solve your scraping problem.

Ace engineering with tire swing that attaches to the tail gate. No need to swing carrier out to open tailgate. Love it!

Do you know if the new ace bumper attaches so they all swing out at once? The ace bumper is pretty heavy right?

That bumper does look good!

I like that OR Fab swing away tire carrier. Sorry for the dumb question but is this the same concept as the Teraflex hinge and carrier combo? I think I like the ORFab design and look better and it's cheaper! What am I missing?

I believe ORFab's design is quite different from the Teraflex hinge. Most folks will tell you that installing the ORFab is a PIA, and I agree it's not real simple, but it is tough and doesn't rattle a bit carrying a 37" nearly 20K miles so far. Hinge bracing must be installed behind the passenger side tail light housing, and the drivers side requires installing the gate block and locking tab.

Yup teraflex replaces the stock hinges for the tailgate and still uses the original tailgate latch while orfab has its own hinge and latch separate. I had copious amounts of swearing with my orfab install but I definitely like it.

Here's my rear end. OR-Fab tire carrier w/ rotopax and Rusty's Offroad Trail Standard rear. Bumper only weighs around 30 lbs and tire carrier doesn't make a squeak. Love it

I like this. And I like that it weighs so little. That's the only thing I dislike about the Ace bumper and tire carrier...it weighs 190 lbs.

I do like the idea of painting the hook on the stock bumper. I may do that tonight to hold me over until I purchase.

So many choices...
