Hi, this is my wife's jeep and it's a 2013 2 door sport. About as bare bones as you can get. It's my wife's daily driver, to and from work, almost never goes off road. Every once in a while we will go on some light trails, and I'd like to do so more in the future. She finally burnt through the stock tires on the little 16" steel wheels, so it's time to upgrade. We bought a set of oem 17" aluminum wheels on craigslist, she really likes those. I also found a set of 285 75 17 tires on craigslist for $200!, in really good condition, lots of tread. We were going to go buy new 33" tires, but being this was such a good deal we decided to get these used tires. I don't think these will fit very well, especially on oem wheel backspacing. We do have a 4 door rubicon suspension on it, which lifted the front about 1.5"-2" in the front and about 1"-1.5" in the rear.
So, that's the background, here's my question... I've been researching a whole bunch of small lifts, such as a rough country or teraflex 2.5" spacer kit. Several others including spring kits as well. I would normally go for a spring kit, as I feel that's a little better compared to a spacer, but, I'm afraid that a 2.5" spring kit on our jeep (with rubicon suspension) will not lift it as much as the spacer kit. Hopefully this makes sense...
I'm looking for input/suggestions from anyone that has some real experience with this. My fear is that by going with a 2.5" spring kit, we will only end up 0.5"-1" more than we have now with the rubicon suspension. The spacer, on the other hand, will be a lift equal to the thickness of the spacer.
My main goal is to keep driveability, not screw up steering geometry, tear up bushings, etc. This is mainly an on road jeep, so that's the priority, but, I'd like to make it capable so that we can start having some fun with it as well. Is a spacer kit "worse" off road?
Any input much appreciated!
