JK Unlimited hard top vs. soft top

Hi folks,
I'm a former TJ owner, looking into moving back into a used Jeep. I've been a Land Rover owner for over 12 years, and l love the truck, but I drove an Unlimited on vaca, and the fam and I loved it. If my TJ would have driven as well, I never would have sold it.

I've been doing some checking on options that I want, and I'm split on whether or not to get a hardtop. If I want both, economically, it makes sense to get a hardtop with the purchase, then buy a softie aftermarket. However, I'm questioning whether or not I really need a hard top. One of my assumptions was noise, however, the hard top is just a big empty shell. With hard dooes and winndows, it would seem that maybe there's not much of a difference.

I'd love to hear some opinion on this.

Thanks!

Not much of a difference IMO.

Always had both tops, OEM hard and aftermarket soft. Bought a factory soft top for my Jk and was surprised on how quiet it is compared to any of the aftermarket tops I've had.

You will be happy with either or both
