Jk unlimited Hardtop question

I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler 4 door unlimited hardtop. I have a very very hard time getting the 2 screw bolts out to take off the tops that are over the front seats. I took it to the jeep dealer and they said there is nothing wrong with it. My girlfriend has brought it to the dealer several times and the mechanics had to come out with vise grips and a shop towel to turn them out. Is anybody else having any problems with these bolt/screws?

Unless you are putting them back in super tight, they should unscrew with ease. Mine is a 07, but I would guess that they are the same. Mine spin off pretty easy once the initial few turns are made from snugging them down.

Ditto on mine. If I sock them down, they are very difficult to get started back out. I learned not to snug them down that tight. Compressing the seal a little is all that is necessary.

I have the exact same jeep, and I haven't had any problems at all. I actually stopped screwing them back in just bacause the weather is super nice in the morning and then I pop them back on in the afternoon when it gets over 105, so I just leave them off.
Hope that helps!

I have heard of people doing this and if I had to take mine off a lot I might try that. I hear it still seals with just the levers thrown.

The seals between the "T" tops and the windshield/freedom top are secured enough by the windshield latchs and the twist levers--

The two thumbscrews-thru the soundbar, which connects the left/right sides, provide the only integral security for the tops center, across the width of the jeep--

This center security will keep the top from "FLEXING" due to air pressure and body torsions, causing degrading of the seals and sidewindow perimeters, with ultimate rollover safety !!

They should never be torqued any more than 'FINGER" tight !!

Oh, I made this up, but it sounds pretty good

Why do you suppose jeep engineered the hardtop, to include those two thumbscrews?????

As long as your puttng the panels back on correctly and pushing the levers in those 2 screws should not be that hard to turn

I initially had this problem and relized I had skipped a step causing them to be difficult to put back on

When you install the tops and passenger side first-then drivers side-the windshield latchs first, then START THE THUMBSCREWS, just to engage the threads

Starting at the windshield-set the pass. side twist levers-then the drivers side twist levers

Finally tighten the thumbscrews-just to finger tight, no more

Now if you don't like that sequence--great, do it your way, mine hasn't leaked in a year and a half
