Every model of Jeep is available in 4x4, but they all don't get the trail rated badge. Compass and Patriot do not.

But I rented a liberty once in Colorado and it clearly had the "Trail rated" badge!

I won a lemon law case against chrysler motors for a bunk Jeep Liberty....I know first hand how much of a piece of trash they can really be. The Wrangler is not only the ultimate in offroad ability, but also a very reliable vehicle for every platform....and it gets pretty much the same mileage as a liberto.

Oops, thanks, they didn't list it on the website, at least not that I saw.

But I see now that it is an optional package.

Your vote will count as much as mine. I'm a former CJ owner who has never gotten over the demise of the CJ and the birth of the Wrangler. I'm slowly warming up since I own one now, but I rarely refer to it as a "Wrangler". It's just a Jeep.

Not a comparison, but does show that Liberty's do have SOME off-road capability:

Again, not in the same ballpark as a Wrangler, but certainly better than any car-based SUV.

I completely agree. Furthermore that is a KJ. The KK's are even better.

The pile in the left foreground is the Liberty.

Here it is a few days later.

I agree that the jk and liberty are worlds apart.
But anyone who says that the liberty is ONLY a soft road vehicle has never tried.
Back in the day I had an 04 tj and my wife had a stock liberty sport. She was an environmental scientist and worked in the field about 3-4 days a week. She took her liberty places most would be nervous to take a stock wrangler. Through water ip to the top of he hood, through sugar sand, and incredibly dense palmetto fields. On more than one occasion she was called on to pull out the contractors in their ford 250's etc.
Sometimes she'd take the wrangler, and said that it did clearly take the trails easier, but in three years of old growth Florida off road work. She didn't get stuck once.
Keep in mind not all liberties were four wheel drive. Those that were had different packages on them and wore the trail rated badge. That's why they started he whole trail rated badge thing. Because starting with the liberty some jeep vehicles were meant to go off road and others not.

Conclusion

Wrangler Sport JK (Stock) VS Liberty

For what I read the Wrangler is more capable Off Road because: Solid Axle ( Dana 44 rear and Dana 30 in the Front), Liberty : Independent in front and solid rear Axle.
Better Groud clearance, Approche and Departrure Angle for the Wrangler. But an excellent driver in the Liberty will do better then a regular driver in the Wrangler.

Thank you all

No more fight now

Oh yeh!

geez always late to the party I am.. I will ad this:

Back about several years ago when the liberty came out I was helping with a Jamboree at Tellico. The product brand manager for the liberty was there... she decided to take her own liby on the trails. We tried to tell her not to. Keep in mind she went with the middle level Jeep run. The damage as I recall was, both sides of the rockers smashed in, the t-case or trans plate smashed in to the trans, leaking fluid perhaps, the rear tire carrier dented in the trunk and missing spare.. not sure why on that.. bottom line.. it was not good.
