Not only high price, but they are expensive to fix. I will NEVER, EVER buy German unless it has a warranty. Trust. me. German = no warranty, no buy.

Like I said.....Black, Silver, and Billet JKU's with painted tops look like G-Wagons....especially Silver. I have a Billet JKU Sahara like the one in the pick (I plasti-dipped my chrome to black). Very classy.

Owned a 2002 VW 1.8T and got rid of it at 51,000 miles. I never had any problems with it. My wife owned a 2009 Audi A3 2.0T Quattro and it was very expensive to maintain. Will NEVER own a German car AGAIN. That POS was out the door at 105,000 miles with numerous problems.

Lol...I like how people are posting like he's trying to spend YOUR money.

The G500 is a great vehicle. Not everyone rock crawls....do your usual due diligence and enjoy whatever you decide.

I'm gonna quote myself here lol.

Had an '01 A4 for 5 years and some 60k miles. Only things I had to replace were a battery (5 years old at the time) and wheel bearing. Got lucky I guess.

Then I had an '07 BMW 328i coupe (e92). Best looking car money can buy (says me). I put a grand or so into it because water leaked into the battery compartment in the trunk. The battery was submerged for who knows how long.

My dad's BMW has had an insane amount of work done to it, all under warranty. His extended warranty is up soon and he is getting rid of it - for another BMW. The last repair order was 4 pages long.

Not sure why the OP wants a G class when he does not even have a garage.

agree.....

not to bash MB....but who ever heard of a turbo diesel dropping a timing chain on a meticulously maintained 300SEL at 110,000 miles?....that had just passed the mechanical check-up 2 weeks before?

I've read & seen many comparisons of Jeep to any/everything else.

None of the hundreds of vehicles I've owed over the past 50 years is equal to the daily grin it brings to me....so pardon my abrupt departure, I've got a Wrangler adventure today starting in a few minutes.

Autoweek recently did a "bake off" between the 2013 JKUR and the G. In the end they thought that the JKUR was a much better vehicle and you would save about 70 grand over the cost of the G Wagon.

But just because a few magazine editors feel that way doesn't mean everyone will. There has to be a reason people are still buying the G and it can't all be because it's a status symbol. People probably figure it must be good because it's a Mercedes and a Jeep must be shoddy because it's a Jeep...

Well the craziest part was that I was going to borrow $35K to pay for the G. Monthly payments of over $600 PLUS maintenance! Banks don't offer good interest rates on eight year old cars with over 90,000 miles. Thank you Wrangler Forum for helping me to see the light before making such a foolish move. I love my Wrangler!

JMO, but it really wouldn't be smart to go pay $35,000 for a vehicle with 90,000 miles on it, plus $600/mo. In the end you'd just wind up really broke. You'd probably wind up with a five-year loan and that vehicle would be dead before you even got a chance to pay it off.

Smart move sticking with the Wrangler.

My wrangler looks better every day! Only 8,000 miles on it and full warranty. The G is really only for the super rich, who can afford a new one, not for mere mortals like me. The chase was fun but I'm glad it's over. Learned a lot.

I don't know if they're handmade, but they aren't actually made by Mercedes-Benz. They are, and always have been produced by Steyer-Puch (I think they're called something else now) in Austria. Some early models were even sold as Puchs.

Steyer also made the Pinzgauer, of which a near mint example lives a few blocks from me.

Don't forget that after you'd spent the $35,000 on your non-warranted vehicle that if you planned on doing any offroading you'd also need some tires. Road tires wouldn't get you very far...
