Jk Wrangler 2011 Audio System

I just got a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited JK and replaced the standard factory stereo with a Kenwood Stereo w/ Sirius and Polk Audio Speakers. It sounds terrible. Almost like listening to a clock radio. I don't have a amplifier or sub woofer but will that make a big difference on the quality of sound. Anybody have any suggestions on getting a cleaner sound or am I just better off going back and getting the upgraded infiinty sound system from the dealer?

That's why I ordered my 2011 with nav and the upgraded sound system and also uconect. EverThing is factory, sat radio antena is there and it even comes with a subwoofer. I just hate to jerry rig anything. Don't really know how good it will sound and really don't care. It's a jeep not a cadilac. It is what it is.

Oh buy the way it has a high powered amp, but I can't remember just how big. But I will never alter the sound system.

I just upgraded stereo system too. It sounded horible.

I rewired the speakers directly to the head unit rather than through the interface module, and that did the trick. In doing so, it removed the tweeters on the dash from the system, but it sounds so good now that I don't want/need them anyway.

Good luck!

Eh I am never a big fan of Polk speakers. But infinity is a good bet. I usually get mine from Crutchfield. Even though its going to be a bit higher. You get everything you need for the install. I always do my aftermarket speaker purchases from them. It will probably be cheaper to purchase new sets of infinity speakers rather then purchase them from the Dealer. Amplifier/Subwoofer is not really needed unless you need bass. For me I am looking to replace my speakers so that I can crank up the music when the top is down. Therefore, a subwoofer/amplifier is not needed.

I just upgraded my '10 with 6.5 Image Dynamics components in the front and a box with a 12' ID in the rear. Put in 2 Alpine amps I had from "back in the day" and lord have mercy thats a whole lot better
Yeah it takes up some of the hatch space but not much.

i did a clarion cx609 head unit (25w rms, 50w peak) with memphis speakers in the dash and soundbar and it sounds amazing for only being pushed by the head unit. total cost involved? about $400.
you didn't wire the speakers backwards by any chance, did you? have you tried messing with the audio settings on the head unit? did you use the factory dash speaker pods? maybe try stuffing the soundbar and pods with polyfill.

i did all 4 6.5 speakers, but not the tweets yet.

bass response is decent, but i got a bit of distortion when i tried to turn the bass setting up past half way (on the positive side). it's coming from the front speakers and most likely due to the factory speaker pod design. i plan on adding some ports to them, which i believe will clear the distortion up. even at what they are set at now, bass response is much better than factory. the clarion has a ton of sound tweaking settings, so i could really tailor the sound.

thats good. i noticed the speakers on my roll bar are really weak compared to the speakers up front. did you notice a significant increase in power from the speakers on the roll bar?

how do you add ports to the speakers?

Thanks for all the responses. I had Best Buy perform the install for the head unit and both the front speakers and back speakers. I am going to have another installer look at it and see if the wiring is incorrect.

boy did i!!

the factory head unit doesn't supply equal power to the rear speakers for some reason. the difference is night and day with an aftermarket head unit.

i meant porting the speaker pods. i mounted my new speakers in the factory pods after stuffing them with polyfill. worked pretty well.

Depends on which head unit you have...

The RER is 16.5 watts per channel x4 it delivers the same to each channel.

I have the RER with Fosgate 6.25 in speakers in the dash, and kept the factory tweeters. And the sound bar was upgraded to 6.25 Infinity 6022i's and to top it all off 2 10 inch Kicker subs and a 800 watt amp just for them in the back... Factory stero will put out great sound...if you dont like the way it sounds, thats why it has a onboard adjustable equalizer.

i did have the res radio.

maybe the rer will put out better sound, by my res sounded WORSE with the memphis speakers exposing it's lack of power.

I replaced my entire system right after purchase of my 2011. I put in a touch screen Pioneer head unit with satellite. The for sound I replaced the dash with Infinity Kappa 6.5 components (60.9cs) and 3-way Infinity Kappas (63.9i) in the roll bar. To finish off the low end I installed a JL Audio 10 inch sub (10w3v3-2) in a Select Increments Stealth Pod. The system is run by a Boston Acoustics amp pumping 70 watts for the speakers and 375 for the sub at 2ohm with a 1 farad capacitor. I like to have the top down and I like music load by very crystal clear and tight. This system accomplishes that to the max.
