Hey guys i have 12 JKU sahara and was wondering with the winter coming up and all, can i actually pull a car that's stuck in the snow or will this "tow hook" break off?
I believe they are technically called "recovery points", and you need to understand most cars do not have built in recovery points to hook TO. Simply hooking to a bumper or whatever could rip it off, or worse.
On second thought, if you have to ask the question, it means you are not experienced with recovery, in which case I would advise getting on your cell phone and calling a tow/recovery service for them instead.
i know it could rip it off, which is why i asked if anyone has used it for a quick fix. Alot of pickups my friends have actually built in recovery points, if you want to call it that. I am not experienced with recovery, nor do i plan on it. I didnt plan on towing the car home, just 2 feet to allow them to drive themselves.
it will be fine for pulling someone or yourself out of snow or a ditch but remember nothing is unbreakable . get a kinetic strap and keep it for this . do not use a chain
Thank you for answering! I already bought a kinetic strap and threw it under the seat. I work in a parking lot that doesnt get plowed some people get stuck all the time and now i figured i can either hook them up to the d rings on my rampage bumper or the hook on my back bumper just to pull them 2 feet so they can be on there way!
If you are just pulling cars out of the parking lot then you shouldn't need a lot of force. However the recovery point on the rear of the jeep is off center and will cause your Jeep to twist while pulling. You would be much better off to attach your recovery strap to the center of your Jeep. Install a trailer hitch and then insert the recovery strap into the hitch and secure it with the pin. Then attach the strap to a secure point on the car (ie. frame or rear axle). Use the least amount of force necessary to get the car out of the parking lot. Using the hitch on your Jeep will help you keep control of your vehicle but keep in mind the car you are extracting is likely to spin his tires and if he suddenly gets traction he will run into the rear of you. So tell them to go slow and not spin their tires.
The only foreign vehicle I have ever had is a Nissan truck. It is harder to buy 'american' now though.
