JKU Roof Rack

Looking for info on a good rack for my jeep. Have a 2012 JKU with trek top. Want something with no drilling and a full frame. Anyone here got a rack on the jeep? Would love pictures and comments

I went with the gobi... Really like it so far... Higher price than most but worth it IMHO. Best pics I have right now.

Looks great. I'm think about the Gobi more so. It won't matter that I have the trek top right?

UPS freight is dropping off my Gobi tomorrow. Hopefully I will have pics tomorrow night. Seems like forever that I've been waiting on my rack.

You don't need your stock back bumper for this rack right?

The attachment points are at the windshield and rear frame and there's plenty of clearance.

No you don't... I have the AEV bumper and there's an adapter kit for the install. You may want to check with gobi on you particular bumper prior to purchase. A few closer pics...

How easy is it to remove if you want to take your hardtop off?

You don't have to take it off to remove hard top. You can slide it out but don't recommend or the rack flips up and you can take it off with lots of clearance

No you don't need a OE bumper.

So far GOBI have only found two aftermarket bumpers that the standard GOBI rear support tower brackets do not fit. AEV/MOAB and Expedition One, GOBI have special brackets for those two bumpers.

There maybe a couple of custom bumpers out there that also have issues. If you are not sure about your bumper send me an email with a picture of side part of the bumper and I can tell you if it will fit. alec@eadoffroad.com

Anyone know anything about the new Rugged Ridge Sherpa Roof Rack? It's more economic than the Gobi rack, but has similar attributes (no-modification, tilt back). Seems to look nice, too.

I found a used Gobi. Love it. If you have a body lift you will need the extended rear brackets as well. There is also a rubber replacement pack to refresh everything and comes with corners. I do suggest the Quick Disconnect kit though. Makes top removal much easier, BUT add 10 minutes to the job.

Love the Gobi. High price of admission but seems to be top notch. Gotta pay to play.

What's the wind noise like? I had a rack and lights on my old jeep and swore never again due to the noise. But now I have no way to carry a 15' kayak so thinking about it...

I believe the main difference is that the Sherpa can accommodate the sunrider position on the soft top. It does not appear that the gobi can do that. However, if your going to take the time to move the rack, mine as well go all the way with the top.
I do like the looks of Olympics Dave's rack, however it does not appear that they are making them for JK's.
I have contacted Olympic, but I have not heard back. Looks great for camping and tailgating!

I'll have to say the buffeting when I have the Soft top on is terrible. Its very loud. I do have a 1" Body lift and do not have the 1" extended rear brackets yet. This may be part of the problem as well, as the rack is too close to the soft top. When I have the Hard top on, I can't hear a thing.
