Howdy from Sweden, Europe
If i look at Transportstyrelsen (Transport Government in Sweden) on there webpage I can check every Wranglers information if I have the number plate number.
If I look at Diesel unlimited Wrangler the have a payload of about 340kg (749 pounds)
If I look at a Pentastar gasoline Unlimited Wrangler the payload is about 545kg (1201 pounds)
So with the Pentastar I can bring 452 pounds more stuff compared to a Diesel Wrangler.
In our calculations there are already a driver and full tank of fuel.
So with diesel with a payload at 749 pounds You can bring 4 passengers but no cargo.
It seems that the Diesel engine is very heavy that affects the payload.
One Diesel Wrangler unlimited
Empty weight including driver and full tank 2249kg
Max total weight 2585 kg
Gives a payload at 336kg
A pentastar Wrangler unlimited
Empty weight including driver and full tank 1995kg
Max total weight 2540
Gives a payload at 545kg.
The Diesel is a 4 cylinder 2.8 liters engine, can that be some more heavy than the bigger Pentastar 6 cylinder 3.6 liter engine. And the Diesel have a turbo.
I have looked at 3 different Pentastar Wrangler and 3 with diesel.
Anyway I drove a 2012 unlimited Rubicon diesel and had a 2012 2 door Pentastar. The diesel sounds like tractor, it was slow and costed about 4 855 dollars more than Pentastar. No way, I bought a Pentastar again.
Many wish they should put in the 3.0 liter 6 cylinder diesel, maybe that would effect the payload even more?
They think that bigger diesel will not fit
"
The 3.0 V6used in the Ram and Grand Cherokee simply cannot fit into the JL Wrangler, especially since it appears that the appearance and “hard points” of the previous generation WK Wrangler will be maintained (partly to reduce the risk, given the switch of aluminum). This engine would also add quite a bit to the cost, and would be hard to produce in sufficient quantity given VM’s existing constraints, though using it would mean less inventory and fewer part numbers in the system."
