Just bought an ultimate sport- and have an issue

I bought a 2011 ultimate sport 2 days ago and love it. I asked 3 times if the car came with blue tooth and was told it did. It doesn't. I talked to the salesman and he said it would cost me 637.00 to have the software put in. My question is, after doing research it appears to me that Uconnect isn't that great of a program. Plus, I'm not sure it is compatible with my HTC Evo. Is Uconnect worth raising a stink about it. Because of my job Bluetooth is very important. Would an aftermarket kit be better? Thanks for any help.

Btw, the salesman is blowing up my phone right now trying to get me to modify my financing to include the cost of Uconnect. They don't want to pay for it.

I paid around $400 for uconnect and it does work with my EVO. It won't upload the phone book, but everything else works fine. Downside, the person on the other end of the phone has a hard time hearing you when on the freeway.

Thank you. I don't really care about the phone book. Just need hands free.

Uconnect works pretty well with my HTC EVO and that is with the most recent system update pushed by Sprint, the only problem I've had so far with it is that I can downloand my phonebook, but it goes into a file under the name of the phone, such as PC3160 and as a result is not "search-able" via the voice options, I have to physically access the file.

I think, honestly, you can get a better unit buying a third party unit, such as the Kenwood, versus using the Chrysler product. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with the 730N unit, but I'm not sure it is worth 1K+.

A quick look at Quadratec(you can probably find something even cheaper via Crutchfield) led me to looking at the Kenwood DNX 6180, it uses Parrot bluetooth and uses Garmin as the nav system versus the Harmon nav system in the 730N. This particular Kenwood system apparently doesn't have SiriusXM, if that's an important feature for you.

Thanks. I like the idea of the nav system, especially garmin. I'm not sure how impotent Sirius is to me. Right now I've got a free year and I'm lovin 90's on 9. But I had it in my last car and didn't keep up the subscription. I think Bluetooth and Nav system would be better. I found Uconnect system for my radio (that has button) for 270.00 online. Not including labor. I think I'm being overcharged. On top of them misleading me. I may go for third party kit.

This is not a correct statement. It doesn't matter what the phone is called by Uconnect. If the phone book is actually downloaded to the Uconnect you only need to press the Uconnect button and say (ex) "call George" and you will be asked if you want to call George mobile (if you have more than 1 number such as mobile, home work) then you will be asked to say (ex) 1 for mobile, 2 for work 3 for home. If you already know that you want to call george's mobile (or any other # that you have listed for him) you can save save a couple steps by saying (after you have pressed the Uconnect button) "call George, mobile" then you would be asked call George mobile is this correct? Reply "yes".
The question I need to ask is :
when you did your original pairing of the phone did you select the "ALways" & "accept" boxes when the dialog box came up asking for permission to download the phone book?
If Uconnect is having a hard time understanding you, there is a section of the set up menu where you can go thru a couple voice traing steps where you repeat some words & phrases that will help Uconnect understand your voice better. Also some names may be slightly pronounced different than how you would normally pronounce them. You may want to listen to the Uconnect system repeat your phone book. Press the Uconnect button and say, "phone book, list names". you will be asked to give a name that you want to start from. Say "all" and the complete phone book will be listed.
Also there is a SW update that was posted by Chrysler on 6-29-2011 for the Uconnect system. (TSB # 08-036-11), Your EVO may work well now, may I ask about your Streaming audio, it's probably still a little fast, correct. The Uconnect update will help this to play properly. I can check tomorrow but on a lot of phones you can change the name of your phone (ex: Bradys phone, where you see the PC3160 which is actually the model # of the phone and EVO is the nick name.

This unit that you are mentioning is it a radio that supports Uconnect? because you mentioned that you found a Uconnect system that has the button. That makes me think this is a radio. If so what model radio is it? If it's a 730 then the Uconnect is built into the radio (good) if it is the 430 then the Uconnect is an external module that you would still need to purchase a module, cables and mic.

Yes, it has the Bluetooth button. When you press it it says on screen "not equipped with Uconnect phone. I called Uconnect and they said that means I don't have it installed. Radio is ready for it. I found the kit for the radio online for 320.00. Everyone here says my evo will work, and since I'm not worried about phone book I think I'll go that route. I appreciate the help.

I have a new sport as well. Go with the Garmin. It has great features with all of the access to the HTC that you need. Plus your getting a great GPS for less than $150.

For what it would have cost me to get the Uconnect hooked up in my Jeep, I got a quality bluetooth and ipod ready aftermarket head unit and 4 quality speakers. So, my phone is plumbed through the radio, my contacts are synced and the sound quality is night and day above the factory crap.

Your EVO will work if you have done the HTC update which takes it from Android 2.2 to Android 2.3.3. The phone book will work with this HTC update. However the Streaming audio will play a little fast. You will want to get the Chrysler provided Uconnect SW update. This will fix the streaming audio, also it will help with iPods. Currently if you are using any of the iPod touches, the Uconnect will give you an "error occurred" message after trying to read the iPod because the iPod is not giving the music files in a supported time frame. Which is the time frame that Apple has used for years but decided to take longer when they went to the 4.0 & higher SW versions. So Uconnect has made the time frame longer in order to get the files.

....and people have criticized me for being a Luddite....

It's an education to see what other Jeepers like for their rig.

I had XM satellite for years and now it's taken 6 months to get them used to the idea I actually have fired them.

Music was important for decades in various rigs but my tastes have changed. I don't care whether there's a radio let alone how it works.

Trying to talk and drive is too annoying these days.

Garmin 650W works fine for what I need GPS to do.

There's so many options in the electronic jungle. A buddy just got some kind of snazzy combo GPS/radar detector for many hundreds of $$$. I got rid of my last detector decades ago.

The frustration of trying to solve home computer issues makes non-computer based stuff while Jeeping a real pleasure.

I'm not ready to abandon wheels in favor of the thrills of riding mules, but I enjoy being disconnected from my toys with the electronic umbilical cords. There's a point where they were demanding too much time & effort for the limited pleasure they provided.

HTC Aria phone.
I do something similar to this in my work van.

I love being able to listen through my stereo.
