Just bought my 2012! :) Question about satellite radio

Hey guys, just got my 2012 black wrangler sport from Pat at Fields Jeep in IL (who was great to work with btw!). It's my first wrangler and probably won't be my last, I freakin love this thing. I just have a quick question, if I replace the stock head unit will I lose access to Sirius radio for the time that I have access to it? Or is it accessible from an aftermarket head unit? Thanks!!

yes you will loose it.

Solution: rock it for a yr and go nuts after that. Spend your Mod money on other things.

It is accessible with after-market but you will have to buy the satelite option which I was told was a couple hundred dollars. One of the main reasons I have not switched out my head unit up to now.

A lot of aftermarket head units are Sirius compatible with an extra antenna. It is not a few hundy more than a comparable non-sat HU, but you do have to pay for the service. The service is about $15/mo but you can generally talk them down to like $20 for 6mos. Thats what I normally do. Let it expire, they will call. you just say "I like it but its too expensive" then let the bartering begin

Why would you want to replace the stock unit? It does everything and then some

My Alpine head unit will put out a lot more power than the stock head unit. Not to mention, it has a built in equalizer, mp3 and Ipod capabilities. Even with stock speakers, the difference is like night and day. The stock system in the wrangler is ok, but nothing to brag about (not complaining, I didn't expect much out of it anyways). I already planned to replace the speakers and install a sub in the near future, so replacing the head unit is absolutely essential. Hopefully an extra antenna is all that is needed like R4D4R stated. I guess I'll just have to confirm with my local sound shop. Thanks for the feedback guys.

You have to get a head unit that has satellite capability. You should still be able to use the stock antenna. Then you simply call Sirius and tell them you switch radios. They will want the number on the new radio to switch the service.

I've switched my service between radios a couple of times. It's very simple.

I had them add the radio in my sport s. Love Sirius.... Hopefully with it being stock, it will be less likely to get stolen.

I'm not a big fan of Sirius up to this point so I'm thinking keep my stock head unit until the 1-year Satelite radio runs out, then replace it with a head unit without Sat. The head unit I was interested in required adding the satelite capability separately which I want to say was in the neighborhood of $150. Not worth it to me for only 8 months of service so I will just wait

If you don't have Navi, I don't see the point in keeping the stock head unit. It has very limited capabilities.

they will automatically renew if you don't call and cancel. just got my (second) advanced notice of renewal in the mail.

I like it, drove regularly in 6-10 hour increments so it is nice to have something I can get a good signal on.

Honestly, how can you listen this radio? Regular free Pandora, Slacker or iRadio are 100 times better. And not just selection, quality of sound is better. Howard Stern is the reason?

The Jason Ellis show and 24 hour mandatory metallica channel is worth the $13 a month
