Just Bought My First Jeep!

It's my first day as a Jeep owner so I thought I'd signup and finally make my first post!

I just bought a '12 JKU Sahara from a dealer in California. Only 9k miles and equipped with a stick shift. I searched for months for this Jeep, apparently manual transmissions aren't as common as I thought they would be. So I have to wait a week for delivery, but at least I know it's finally on it's way.

Here's a pic from the dealer.

By the time it arrives I'll have the shop ready to put some 37"'s under a 4" lift and it'll be ready for the trails.

The last time I drove a Jeep was back in high school, my mom had a '78 CJ7 that I took to school. I haven't driven anything as fun in the 20 years since. I found a pic of one just like it.

This JK should be a BIG step up!

Welcome from Scottsdale right across the street-ish! Congrats!

Before you go slapping 37s and a 4 inch lift on it tho, read here - all million or so posts. When your eyes bleed, come back and let us know how that plan has changed. It is sort of a WF initiation rite!

JK Tech common questions here!!!!

What shop are you using?

If you only plan to do a lift, I would strongly encourage you to look at 33-35s instead of 37s.

Thanks for the advice mommymallcrawler, I'll look at those threads now. I love the look of 37's but wouldn't want to regret any of these mods later.

For the shop I've been talking to both Absolute Offroad and 4wheelparts

Even though I love the look of 37's I decided to go with 35's on a 3.5". I considered 37's on a 4.5" but didn't want to mess with the driveshaft.

I have 35's on a 3.5" lift and that seems like the sweet spot to me. Jeep drives great and it gives good clearance off road. I'm like you and would love to go 37's. Just don't have the funds to do it right.

Just a quick update.. decided against the black '12 Sahara, luckily before finalizing the paperwork, and went with a '13 commando green Sport instead. This beast is already on a 6" lift and has all the upgrades I would have otherwise spent a long time cobbling together.

I bought it today at 3 and was already in the dirt by 5.

Nice color! But the first thing I would do if I were you is have the rig looked at by a local offroad specialty shop. for safety sake. A 6 inch lift is way high on a JK. What size tires does it have? There are many things that could expensively go wrong if that lift wasnt done right. A bunch of the local shops are sponsors on AZVJC and I know some of them will do a free inspection (just saw your intro post there - I am willygoat over there). To give you an idea, most folks lift 2.5 - 3.5 to run 37s on a JK. Even at 3.5 it requires some extra expense and upgrading. I hope the PO really built the rig right and didnt just slap the lift on and add tires.

Was just out on an AZVJC run down close to your neck of the woods yesterday, about 10 miles-ish west of the White Tanks. Look forward to meeting you on a run soon!

Welcome to the "family"

Welcome to the forum. Your quota of fun has just been increased!

I know about the 6 speed being difficult to find, especially in the city. I was given an incorrect final date that I could order my new Jeep last year and discovered too late that it was in fact too late to place my order. After looking at hundreds of dealership inventories I found only a few with everything that I wanted. The closest was 300 miles away. I had the local dealer bring it in just for me. This is Jeep #6. I have really liked the others but I L O V E my 10A Rubicon.

Welcome. Very nice Jeep.

I am also a bit concerned with a 6" lift but, then again, I am the fan of 2.5-3.0" lifts. I would still get multiple knowledgeable folks to look it over.

It does look great but you must make sure the cosmetics are not skin deep.

also dont look like a sport. looks more of a sahara with painted fenders and color matched top. They can be added later, but not a typical modification to the sport. anywho, nice rig!

I have a build sheet coming from the shop today. It was built by Moab Industries, they build a lot of Jeeps for dealerships here. They maintain the Jeep factory warranty and also fully warranty their build. I'm taking it to them in about a week to have a tune up done and to have the suspension looked over.
