just got a call from dealer, can't get bare bones jeep

trying to buy a new "bare bones jeep". all i want is 2 door black, ac, auto, cruise control and 410 gear ratio, will settle for 3:73 gear ratio. all dealer can find is 3:21 gear ratio in bare bones jeep like i want. with the new power of the pentastar engine will the 321 ratio be acceptable with a small lift and 35 inch tires? thanks all steve.

You'd be better off with the 3.73 with an auto trans and 35's. I'm pretty sure you can only get the 4.10 on the Rubicon.

If you want 35's you are going to need a higher gear ratio - I don't even know if 3.73 would be enough

Anyway, just order it from the factory. Get exactly what you want

It all depend on what you'll be using the Jeep for. Mine has 3.73's and I was thinking about getting 35" tires but decided to go with 33's. From the people I have talked to you certainly would find it sluggish if you combined 35's with 3.21 gears.

This has been covered so many times!

You will always be better with the lowest available factory ratio if you desire to run larger tires, period! But the new 5 speed Auto changes the way we calculate "needed" ratios. The 3.21 in the Auto 2012 has a lower overall gear ratio than the '07-'11 3.73s had. So, if you could handle driving a '07-'11 Auto with 3.73s and 35s then you should be fine with a '12 with 3.21 and 35s.

You need to order the Rubicon to get 4.10s.

And cruise control might mean that you need to get a Sport S, which means you get power windows and the like as well. Though I'm not sure about that.

I don't think you'll like 3.21s on 35" tires. It's true that the final gear ratio on the auto 2012 with 3.21s is better than the final gear ratio for the auto pre-2012 with 3.73s, but the a pre-2012 auto with 3.73s was a pretty bad driving experience with 35s. So that's like saying if you didn't mind terrible performance before, you won't mind terrible performance now. Hardly a ringing endorsement.

That said, are you aware you can regear aftermarket for about $1600? So for your preferences, I'd recommend not paying more than that for any "extras" you don't want just to get 3.73s. If you can save $1600 or so in other extras by skipping the 3.73s, then you can just spend that aftermarket to add 4.10s, 4.56s, or 4.88s and get much better performance.

Order one the way you want it. 4.10's are only available in the Rubicon, but every trim level can get the 3.73's. Don't worry about cruise as it's standard. I ordered a bare bones model with the only boxes check were the 5 speed auto and 3.73 gears. I have cruise, crank windows, and no AC. Just the way I like it.

thanks all, dealer finally located close to what what i want , 3.73, ac, cruise, auto
and got the black i wanted. i will still have to add the lsd.

i could have gotten a rubicon, but as of right now, it is lots of dollars and i am not sure i will ever need all the features it comes with. not sure i won't need them either. i think for right now my bare bones model will suit me fine, and is a good base to build on. i know a few guys with rubicons, some are happy with the way they come from the factory and others say they should have gotten a lesser model and put the money they saved into modding the jeep on their own.
well, time to go get my jeep! again tks all

Just for interest, I did the calculations a few weeks ago and the gear ratio of the 2012 5 speed auto makes a 2012 with 3.21 diffs the same RPM's as a 2011 with 3.96 gears.

On top of that the motor is more powerful and has torque coming on at lower RPMs.

A 2012 5 speed auto with 35's on it will be sitting on about 1800rpm at 70mph.

The 2011 auto with same 3.21's would heave been doing ~ 1460 RPM.

I was going to order a basic but LS Diff is not available. That's the only reason I went up a notch to Sport S. But like another poster said, you don't want the Sport S wheels and tires anyway, you're be better off saving the dough and get the diff and gear ratio you want in the aftermarket.

Yes.

It's a Wrangler, you can add anything. FWIW, I'm actually pretty set on adding a front and rear LSD.

Power windows on sport s option is only for the Unlimited. The 2 dr sport s does not come with power windows

4:10 only comes on the Rubicon. It is not an option for the Sport or the Sahara. The only time the 4:10 was an option for non rubis' was in the first productions of the JK's in 2007. After that the 2008-2011 were 3:21 standard on Manuals with an option of 3:73 upgrade and 3:73 for Automatic in non-rubicons. Rubicons came with 4:10 only. In 2012 the Rubicon got a 3:73 option alone with the 4:10 while the non rubicons are 3:21 and 3:73 options.

You can get power windows on a JK Sport S. I know because I did. See the build site, power convenience package, $685 which gets you power door locks, and powered/heated mirrors and alarm.

Not on a 2 door, the S does not come with the power stuff. Mines an S and its fairly stripped down...just the way I like it

Iowaraider- My Sport S is sitting in my garage with power windows etc. You are correct that you cannot get the power stuff on a base Sport, but we are talking apples/oranges.
