Just got a jeep

It's a 2009 wrangler sport. today I took out the windows and when I was driving the back of the soft top came off( the part that holds the rear window in place and by the tailgate). Did I miss a step to secure that or is this normal?

Also what's a good inexpensive suspension lift?

Only had the jeep forma few days and like it a lot.big difference from my last car(Lexus isf) but I still like the jeep. Already had a couple of waves from other jeeps too.

Thanks in advance

The tail gate bar is held in by two plastic clips. They become loose over time and don't hold that well. The two clips crab the upper corner of the tailgate/tub. Make sure they are secure before you tuck the window (tailgate) bar in

Make sense? Hope so

Lifts, u don't need much, AEV and TF make good budget boost.

Cool thanks guys. I don't know how to post pics from my phone and thats what I use for the Internet.
The part I'm talking about doesn't have a clip. It has a black lip that slides into the groove of the cab. Is this the same piece ?
If my driving on the freeway and it comes out will it ruin the soft top? Or should I just let it blow around?

I'll check out those lifts. If I buy one and out bigger tires will I need new gears?

What size tires do you want go with? 35s you should be ok but you will feel a slight decrease in power but its tolerable. 37s you will need to regear around 4.88 and probably upgrade your axle shafts.

Yes. Make sure there is a rubber seal on the corners. If the seal is not there, the clips won't stay in place.
Also the bottom corner of the soft top should cover them to help hold in place.

Ok I'll check. If it's not there then what? Will it ruin the soft top if it does come off and I'm driving on the freeway?

Yeah I don't think I need anything bigger the 35s. What would be the right gears for 35s? How much do gears cost(installed)?
Thanks.

Without the rubber seal, I don't think the brackets will hold.

First pic-the clip is in place with the window (tailgate bar) inserted.

2nd pic- see how the corner of the soft tops bottom channel tucks underneath it?

With out the clips I would worry about leaks and/or losing the tailgate bar while driving.

Yes my soft top has the rubber piece to tuck under. But mt question is when the rear window is off.

Thanks.
4.56 gears and price for all parts is around $1000.

Just unzip it from the right and let it flop into the cabin. You wont hurt anything. You certainly can remove it from the metal clips that hold the window spine if that is what you mean.

I did this. While I was driving the Soft top came out of the groove by the tailgate. It was the passenger rear corner and it was just flapping around. I didn't know if I just didn't tuck it in right or there is another step I forgot. Also if it was going to ruin the soft top at all with it not being tuck in and held tight.

Did the hard spine come out or just the cloth from the spine guide? Maybe it is in reversed? When it's up, is it nice and tight like in his pics up there? The 2 areas near those bed "guides" for better term should look like the pic and the tailgate area should look pretty flush when done right. Take a pic.

Sorry I'm new to all this. Hard spline? If you mean the black plastic piece then yes that came out of the groove from the car when I was driving.
Again I'm on here through my phone and don't know how to post pics.

Good and you'll probably get different recommendations, but

Don't ever consider regearing with a 4.10/4.56--gotta be AT LEAST 4.88/5.13, the 42rle auto won't operate very well without those taller gears !!

Then you can pretty easily adjust your tire size--up to 35"

Good luck--you'll have to get either the AEV Procal Module or a "Super chip" to reset your tranny--dealer can't doit-

Good luck

That's a great price I paid, as do much, around $1600 for my 5.13's ( 4.56's ate more expensive due to rarity, or so I have found). A lot pay upwards of 2k. If you can find it for $1000 installed, jump all over that.

Ok so this is the black piece I was talking about. It was basically just flapping around while I was driving on the freeway.
I'm thinking it wasn't in properly.

Lol... A round..

Ya-- got quoted $1500.00 here when I owned my Tj ... Had plans to add lockers also. "doit once not twice"

Figure out the back yet?

Everything tucks into each other to secure in place

Soft tops stretch over time. I you were driving windows out/top up, this can happen. Happened to me with my old TJ. Best remedy is to completely drop the top.

Should not just pop out. Was it random, or does it come out all the time?

Even without those tailgate clips it should still hold into the tub grooves.

Just now when I was outside I put the back into place and it didn't seem like it was in very well,so I tugged it over to the middle of the body and it seems like it's fitting a lot better.
Before an inch of that black piece was hanging out of the slot on the body and now it's all tucked in.
I think it might have been my fault when I took the rear window out.
Whoops...

When you change the gears to 4.88/5.13 what does this do to your speed on the freeway and mpg.
