keeping the rear seat up when folded

When I fold up the rear seat and drive it seems to want to fold down and up and down and up.

In my old TJ I had a canvas strap coming off one of the roll bars on the side that hooked on to the seat to hold it up. Should my JK have one of those straps or am I missing something else?

Thanks!

When you fold the rear seat back up it should click into place. It's pretty obvious when it does this too since you can feel it.

I'm sure someone will come in with a more detailed answer though.

Mine doesn't click when it's in the folded position. It only clicks into place when it's reopened and in "seat mode".

See here for more info in the topic:

I only had mine in for a month before taking it out completely. My 08 JK did have some kind of 'click' into the folded position, and it never fell out of whichever position I put it in.

That's nice! Mine just seems to flop around, really only staying in place because the center of gravity is forward of its front feet.

Now that I think about it, the only time I've ever had it move is when I have the top half folded down, but the seat is not folded forward. If I do that, the next time I come to a stop, SLAM! as the rear seat hit the back of the front seats.

I don't think I've ever had it come down when it was in the up/folded forward position. Though it definitely does not lock into place. I just went out and checked again.

You should add that to the thread for what you would add to the 2012.
The rear seat issue is annoying. When putting the seat back in the upright position you also have to slam it down so it lock in place. The set up on the TJ was much better.

I must have gotten lucky, I don't have either issue. I never just fold it down since I know of no way it would stay there. I always flip it all the way up against the front seats giving you the full cargo area. I can't imagine why you would do it any other way.

Mine won't stay up when it's folded against the back of the front seats. Every stop light or sign causes it to slam down.

I got fed up with it and took it out. It kept flopping unless I put something behind it in the "UP" position.

Bungee cords worked for me and saved my dog from getting squished.

Recline your passenger seat back once its folded up, it wont move.

Same here. My 09 JKU rear seat folds down and up, no problem.

Agreed. My 2011 stays up with no problems. Even when I've given the skinny pedal the full force of my right foot.

Mine stays up (folded) no problem, but I don't hear a click. I thought the weight would always be enough to keep it folded. Kind of a tight fit anyway in a 2dr, so maybe that's it.

Unhappy Jeep won't fix anything

I returned my 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara for service on my rear seat.
Here the Quote off my Servivce Slip from the Dealer.

"Rear seat not equiped with lock mechanism manufacturer expects to be
removed for extra Space"

Jeep & Dealer just won't fix anything.
I have gone to 3 Jeep Dealers.

I took my back seat out. But I do remember before ordering that a demo Jeep on the lot had the same problem the OP mentioned while another for-sale model didin't. The salesman and I talked about it. (I wanted to see how the seat came out and how heavy it was, out of curiousity).

I'm just wondering if there's an instructional video out there that shows how an adult is supposed to get into the back seat of a JK.

My back seat, 2012 Sahara 2dr, does not lock into place nor does it try to unfold. I like the "expects to be removed" part of your service slip.

That video is titled "Very Rarely".

Probably easier to just jump into the back with the top off.

Mine used to rock back on acceleration on my 08. I hold in place with bungie cords.

DieTech Offroad Seat Retainer

Die-Tech Off-road Seat Retainer

My seat (2door) mostly stayed up but not always. The DieTech bar keep the seat up and when the seat is down it covers the bar.
