Kelly Safari TSR and GY Duratrac same?

I read that Goodyear owns Kelly and that the Safari TSR is essentially the DT with a slightly different tread pattern. The Kelly is substantially cheaper when you add the cost of 5 tires. Talk me out of the Kelly's!

True.

I believe Daniel_M runs the Kelly TSR's.

No point in talking you out of it. Like wolf stated, they are essentially the same tire. The Fierce Attitude MT is also manufactured by Kelly and is similar to the DT and TSR, but is a MT.

Wow. I saw those on a rig in a pic the other day and thought they were DTs until I looked closer. Since then I've been wondering what they were. Cool.

Kelly tires do not have the current Goodyear promotion or Tread lightly ($160 in rebates)

Depending on what angle you work, you might be able to beat the money saved by that GY/TL promo by going with a Kelly. Just a thought.

I run the Kelly TSR in 315/75R16, essentially 35”, and I love them. They are manufactured by Goodyear as is the Fierce brand. I picked mine up here in Glendale for $177 a tire but they have since increased in price to $245 a tire, still a cheaper 35 to run though. When mine wear, I’ll be doing the same ones again.

I think this might be the way to go. After looking at Daneiel M's they are almost indistinguishable to the DT's and for this price cant beat it.

Just found them a bunch cheaper and bought ..http://www.onlinetires.com/products/...+tsr++bsl.html

$188.17 per tire however their shipping was nearly $400 killing the benefit of the sale price. I then called Tire Depot and they matched the sale price with shipping for less than two hundered. Delivered to my door total price for 5 tires $1096.95.

I looked at the Kelly, Fierce, & Walfart Authority, but ended up w/DT's because of the size I chose. All of these tires need more/bigger sizes available, IMO.

I got the dt's... Rebates and promos made them a better deal, and I love the set I already have...

Does anyone know the weight difference between the Duratrac and the Safari in the 315/70/17 size? i know they are similar but does that make weight identical?

2lbs difference. Kelly weighs more (tsr 62lbs, dt 60lbs), but about $50. Cheaper per tire.

I have been looking at the Kellys for awhile now, and like them.

Yeah i actually just called just tires and they said the Kelly's are around 61.5lbs and the Fierce attitudes in 35x12.5/r17 are about 63lbs.

All nice tires, makes decision making a little bit harder now.

This is almost true been in the business for 25 plus years and I can tell you with 100% confidence that the TSR is a good tire and the DT is a great tire but they are not the same construction. Goodyear also owns the Dunlop brand and the way it was explained to me is the Goodyear name brand tires always have their premium technology the latest and the greatest whether it be in the materials, construction or tread design the GDY name gets it. Then they move the current technology down to either Dunlop or to Kelly depending on the product needs. That's why they can charge an arm and a leg for the Goodyear name. Either way you will end up with a good tire!

I bought the Kelly's after ordering my Jeep and finding out the Goodyears were unavailable for up to 8 months. Not wanting to use the factory tires I did my research and bought the Kelly's. I have had zero issues in the year I have owned them and boy do they work good in the mud, snow and ice. I would definitely buy these again when they finally wear out!

The first set of tires I put on my 13 were Kelly TSR. They performed outstandingly in the deserts of the SouthWest and held a slight advantage in some areas over the DT, mainly in big rocks and mud. I changed them out because like the DT they have a weak 2ply sidewall. Seen one to many DT with cut sidewalls and wanted more peace of mind that 3plys offers.

Good deal if you like the Kellys and if they are good enough but just because the tread looks the same does not mean they are the equal. Tread pattern design is complex and expensive so tire companies often trickle down the design to the lower end tires in their product line. There is a lot more to a tire than just the tread, the materials (belts and tread compound) and manufacturing process can be very different.

Anyway, I have nothing against the Kelly's but the DT are one of the best tires and just don't expect to get a DT for TSR prices.

I've now got close to 60k on these same tires. No complaints.

They may run forever from the looks of the tread.
