Kevlar exterior body coating

Does anyone here own or know someone who does own a jeep that has been fully coated with the bedliner like material that has Kevlar integrated into it and can be done in any color?

See this for an example: 2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport (24S pkg) WE FINANCE Dallas, Texas | Starwood Motors

Looking to find out if this finish holds up to UV exposure and road use. Also like to know if those who have it would do it again. Any pros or cons from those who have it?

Last but not least, curious to know what something like that would cost to do if added after the sale?

Thanks

The ultraviolet component of sunlight degrades and decomposes Kevlar, a problem known as UV degradation, and so it is rarely used outdoors without protection against sunlight.

Check wikipedia...

I'm dubious kevlar in this context offers any real benefit.

But real bedliner--not the rattle can stuff--sure would. It's made to be put in the back of pick up trucks, sit in the sun, and have cinder blocks thrown on it. Check Line-x to find a local instaler and call and ask them.

I've heard of some dealers saying they don't do vehicle exteriors, but you can see it done on some vehicles right on the Line-x website.

Check wikipedia...
I am not disagreeing, but you should think twice before referring Wikipedia as the base of your knowledge.

I disagree. I love the fact that soccer moms, street riders and just plain people that never go off road buy jeeps. We should promote them to buy as many as possible. I really think they should all buy Rubicon's and sahara models also.

It makes the Chrysler company stronger, and as they have more profit from that division they will invest more into research and development. I am also looking for a second used jeep. I mush prefer to buy one of these jeeps that some soccer mom has not abused instead of one that one of us here has beat the crap out of.

The more jeeps they buy the more used Rubicons we will see on the used market later on that say, 37 K miles, never off road, perfect cond, etc. etc. just sayin,,

So how would you maintain that??? you don't wax it ,right? And it degrades in sunlight???

it doesn't seem to make sense.

I don't think Line-X would degrade particularly in sunlight, and I'm sure they have recommended maintanence procedures for cleaning and so on. Can't speak for some new-fangled Kevlar product though.

Line-X is great for truck beds. I had it in my '06 RAM. It is sprayed on, multiple coats to acheive thickness. They sandpaper your new paint to get it to adhere.
It does fade a bit over time, you could have it resprayed. It also mildly stains from things like gear oil,2 cycle mix, etc, for those that use their tail gate as a table.

Most dealers are independant and will spray anything you want, including fenders, bicycles, bumpers, etc. It can be colored.

I totally agree as wikipedia not being the most reliable place to finds factual information, I was just lazy and it was the first source that came up when I googled..... the whole point is that kevlar hold well, but will fail sooner or later if exposed to UV rays for an extended period of time. It's for that same reason that kevlar vest (bulletproof vest) have a five year expiration and that's because the vest are not directly exposed UV rays.

Kevlar is used in some liners, but according to Raptor liners website its a scam, course it's a rival product so... Personally I think I looks cool, but why waste a rescue green jeep to do it? Why not start off with a black jeep anyway? also, that will be cool until it gets mud on it for the first time.

I think it would look awesome to do the 4 doors on my deep water blue 2010 with black line-x/monstaliner/raptor.

When I pull the carpet and bedline the floor, it is going to be really, really hard not to just keep going on the doors.

Depending on the product, bed liner can be very course and grainy. Very hard to get dirt and bugs out of the "depressions". I have to take a stiff brush to clean the bugs out of my grill on the JK. I had my YJ done all around the fenders and door bottom/rockers and tailgate, it faded after a couple of years, and added a considerable amount of weight, so doing an entire JK is going to add a bunch of weight.....JMHO.

I just purchased one of these - its not LINEX nor Kevlar and doesn't carry any warranty on the liner – mine has discoloring on the hood and doors – looks like SH*** - and NO LINEX dealer will fix it

If I had to do over wouldn't buy anything from Starwood Motors :rtft: :rtft:

When my rig get's to that point I'm just gonna hit it with rattle can matte black. I'm not sure I'd want the texture of bedliner on the outside. I do agree the black one shoud have done the fenders too.
