Key Code is missing

Hello all

I have recently bought a second hand 2009 Wrangler JK Sahara Unlimited. The manual says that the keys of the vehicle are shipped in a plastic bag with the key code number on it. I have got the two keys of the Jeep from the previous owner but no plastic bag with the key code number.

Is there a way to get the key code based on the VIN number?

Do I need the key code for anything else besides the case that I have to get a new key programmed?

If you have two working keys you are in luck. You can buy a pair of keys of eBay for $15, take them to Home Depot or Sears, get them cut, then the programming instructions are in the manual. You do not need a "written down" keycode to program the keys (You do need two working keys though)
