Key in Ignition Reminder

Starting last month I started having this issue on my 2013 JKS where when I take the key out of the ignition and open the door I get the "key in ignition" message on the EVIC display even though the key is removed.

If I put the key back in and turn it, then remove it, the message goes away.

What I've noticed is that when I remove the key and I hear and feel a positive click from the ignition switch the message never appears, but sometimes I don't get that click and when that happens is when I get the key in ignition message when the key is out of the ignition.

It does the same thing with both keys, but it only happens occasionally and I'm wondering if any one has any clue as to why it does this.

If I end up taking it to the dealer and they replace the lock cylinder, will replacing the lock cylinder require the keys to be reprogrammed? If so that's going to mess up my remote start and I don't really want to do that.

Any body have any suggestions?

Take it to the dealer.
If it is all under warranty I would not worry about it. Let Chrysler pay for replacing and re-keying everything.

My 2011 was giving me the ding noise like the key was still in the ignition and the keyless entry wouldn't work or the driver door lock. The dealer said it was the ignition switch they said they had it in stock and replaced it. Makes sense I guess if it thought the key was in the ignition it wont lock. next time try the keyless and the driver door button to see if it works. I don't know but this might help you.

My 2012 is doing the exact same thing. You can actually see how when you remove the key, the cylinder stays "stuck" in position. It's supposed to move to the outward detent to signal to the computer that the key is removed, but it's physically getting stuck in place.

Taking mine in next week. This JKU has been a pile of crap compared to every other Chrysler vehicle I've owned. I'm getting a little aggravated at this point.

When the cylinder sticks...you can't lock the doors or anything. I'm worried that it'll permanently stick one day and I'll be dead in the water.

If they replace the ignition lock cylinder, will they also have to replace the lock cylinder in the door and issue all new key fobs?

I don't actually like any of the so called technology its all a pain in the butt.
I don't need telling that the key is in the ignition , or a light showing me that the door is open, I have enough brain cells to work that out for myself.
I think they should make a "Jeep Unloaded" . A basic and capable 4x4 machine.
Once mine is out of warrantee I might work on getting rid of all the pointless technology

I think they re-key the new ignition cylinder to the existing vehicle keys. Since wins is not a part of the lock cylinder itself no key programming should be necessary from my research.

Took mine to the dealer today and they said they'd have to order parts...so I have to go back again on Wednesday.

Got the key cylinder replaced yesterday ,and both keys reprogrammed. Worked fine. Drove it to work this morning, took the key out and it stuck again. Chime is dinging, doors won't lock, and the key is in my hand! WTH? What's up with these things?
