Kicker HS8 Hideaway sub

I bought the above sub for my jeep after doing the Kicker speakers in the soundbar and being happy with that. This is from my research the biggest sub that you can stuff in the little trunk area of the jeep without affecting cargo room...

I have to put some dynamat down which I don't have at the moment but I am happy with the output from this sub!

I have a JK 2 door as well if that helps anyone.

I didn't do the install myself, but just thought I would put up this post in case it helps anyone because I like bass and I assume there are others like me but don't want to invest in a JL audio stealbox for example (which takes up space too!).

Anyway sound is good (aside from some rattle which will be solved by dynamat) and it is much louder than I need it to be. Overall very happy!

I don't have a photo on here yet, but there is an auto volume adjust just for the sub as well that I have placed on the center console with no holes needing to be cut etc. Hidden away and still within easy reach.

I bought all the wiring and converter needed for your average sub but it was interesting because Kicker has done a great job in designing this so that you actually don't need it. The sub comes with everything needed to install to a stock or otherwise headunit. Very convenient!

Hope this helps someone!

Any chance this would have fit under the passengers side front seat?

Good looking install BTW. I looked at this sub myself.

Thanks!

No chance because of the sensor cord that hanging down the middle for what I assume must be the airbag... if you disconnect that then maybe?? I didn't want to put it there either way because I am always sliding that seat forward all the way etc and wouldn't want someone stepping on it by accident while getting in.

It will be fine once the dynamats in as well and its completely invisible which is always good!

Thanks for the comments! Can't really say in regards to the vs Infinity.... I think if you already have a sub box built into your vehicle as in the case of the Infinity upgrade package then you wouldn't be doing this... you already have a perfectly good place to throw in a sub as well as the wiring. You could just throw in a different sub only instead of doing all of this... cheaper and probably better.

Photos of the volume control and general cabin so you can see how its not very noticeable...

I do have the stock Infinity sub, but want to remove it to make room for storage ideas. So if this is comparable, I would probably do it. Stock sub doesn't win rave reviews anyway.

That thing looks like it would resonate badly installed in that area unless there was a LOT of mat installed.

That looks great. I've been thinking about adding a sub.
If you don't mind me asking, what speakers did you put in the soundbar? Did you change the front speakers? It's hard for me to tell in the pic... are you using the stock head unit? Last one... What is that rattler your talking about? Where's it coming from?

Thanks!

Yes you are right. I have ordered dynamat and will use it to dampen against the metal.

Having said that I think that will resolve the issue. I will take pics when I have it installed and let the forum know the results.

As for the speakers...

I did the sound bar like many on here, stuffed it w poly fill and kicker speakers.

I did not touch the front speakers or tweeters and don't plan to.

I also adjusted the stock head unit sound settings as per forum recommendations however dialed back the bass since the hs8 has its own control.

And so yes stock head unit. Hs8 comes w everything needed to install the your head unit and all wiring necessary.

As far as being better than the infinity I have no idea...

I have this sub under my front passenger seat because in a JKU having it in the trunk I don't think it will do the job. I swapped out my front and soundbar speakers with some decent alpines and with the hideaway sub it sound great. I will post pics when i get home later today.

Looking forward to the pic. Is the sub completely hidden under the seat?

Couldn't they have provided a smaller gain/power adjuster knob? That thing is huge on your center console. Is there more to that box than an adjuster knob?

I put my knob tucked away under the front dash for my JL sub.

I understand that. My 11yo. son is chompin at the bit for me to get some bass in the Jeep. I have to admit, it could use a bit more thump.
Waiting on JKNoor to post his pics so I can see what the sub looks like under the passenger seat.

JKelley: here are a few pics from various angles. These were taken with the seat moved all the way forward, when its pushed back the sub is 100% hidden & the strap you see if just to keep it in place although i'm not sure if its needed but I figured why not use it.

Thanks JK! Looks like a good spot. I'm wondering, does the passenger feel the bass sitting right above it? Could get interesting with the wife riding shotgun.

I have added dynamat as an update to my install and it has resolved the rattle issues and the sub sounds fine now. Having said that I like the underseat install better- good work!!

I just purchased this unit (spur of the moment thing really) and will be installing it under the passenger seat. Fits perfectly there. I will be using blocks to keep it raised though. Seems pretty straight forward to me. Then I can just worry about the amp for the front and sound bar speakers.

so I am seeing that this item WILL fit under the seat of a wrangler? And wiring tips? Where do you take the power from? and how did you run the wires to the player? It looks like a clean install..
