Kidney Stones and the Wrangler

So last monday I had a kidney stone drop me to the fetal position moaning and crying like a little girl. After 3 shots of morphine and 2 shot of dilauded all I could do was pray for it to pass. The one thing over the past 5 days was to tell myself that the Jeep was waiting for me. Yesterday was finally the day that I passed that damn thing. The first thing I told my wife and kids was to get in the Wrangler because we are going for a drive. We wound up at 4 wheel parts (figured I had the sympathy card going for me) and I found myself a new bikini top. :)

It truly is a lifestyle. Happy fathers day to everyone.

Glad to hear you tell me this. I have a friend in the medical field telling me to get one as they help with the pain. This is my 9th stone. 3rd one to put me in the ER. Have an appt with urologist this coming week to try to find out what types of stones they are.

I've had 6-8 stones over the years. The one thing I found that helped, but only temporarily, was to lie in a tub of hot water. The pain goes away immediately. The only problem is that soon after getting out of the tub, the pain begins to come back. But, at least it is some relief. I've been told that the pain from kidney stones is as close a man can get to labor pains for a woman. I believe it!

I'm a woman & have given birth to 2 babies that were both over 9 lbs. & trust me.....kidney stones are WORSE than childbirth!!! I've had 3 kidney stones & the last one was the worst! They had to 'blast' it to get it to break up & it took a couple of days to pass. Give me childbirth anyday over a kidney stone! :nonono:

The stent caused lots of complications in my case, a constant need to urinate plus about a pint of blood a day. I had a different urologist get it out of me after a month of torture. I heard some cases where people had them remove in offices and not OR's with no anesthetic.

Never had one thankfuly but i hear for us guys its makes you wish for death. My wife gets them. Religiously. She has had surgery for them to break them ultrasonicaly two or three times now. The rest are iust lots of drugs amd wait to pass. I had to take her to the ER two sundays ago at 4am. Opiates, a CT, more drugs and all she can do is wait. 2mm. Her record is 6mm (required surgery). There is a medication you can take to help prevent them if you are prone to them. Urologist gave that to her last week. Now she is fighting a bladder infection from it. So if she feels better by next weekend we will be out for a run.

I ended up at the ER on my 42nd birthday this year when I couldn't urinate. This was the worst experience I ever had. Its very emasculating. I told myself I would do everything possible to avoid this again. I have changed my diet, added more water and stopped drinking Sprite which is probably the best thing I ever did. While sitting in ER which was the first time I have ever been in an ER ever, all I could think about was how many mods would have to wait because of this. $2000 is what it cost me for that visit. That's a lot of mods.

As I was l lying in bed in the ER on pain meds (dilaudid), my wife, the nurse (who was female), and the doctor (who was female), all started busting on me about me not knowing what pain is like... Not feeling any pain whatsoever, and not being at all bothered by their banter, my only response was to ask that they keep the pain meds coming... :D:D:D

Stones suck...that's just a fact. I have had several...and they nearly bring me to my knees when they act up. Mine are caused by oxalate.....anything with citrate or citric acid in it serves to help minimize them....as does drinking water to nearly excess...some 80 to 100 ounces a day!!

I've had 2 stones, thankfully they were some 17 years apart, but I also had a period of time where I had Gout as well. Never did catch either stone, but had a good Doc (couldn't understand his English all that well) but he put the two together and said cut the Organ Meats (check), Cut the Cheese (check) then he said Cut the Beer (I said WTF?) However, I cut way back on Beer and stopped the Gout attacks and no Kidney Stones. I love Beer, but the pain of the Kidney Stone can turn a man to God and swear off Beer. I haven't fully given up beer, but I wash it down later on with a lot of water and now I only drink the good stuff. If it's not a quality Hefeweizen I have no problem saying no.

Had a twin yesterday. 2 stones passed in 3 days. Good lord I hate these things. This one was quite a bit smaller and not nearly as painful. But it still sucked.

Dang it, you guys have got me almost worried. I'll be 40 in two months and I'm still waiting to hear something good about hitting that age range other than my PT test getting a little easier and the insurance on Isabela getting cheaper. I think I'll switch my 3 cups of coffee a day to 3 gallons of water instead. Wait, no coffee, I'll have to think about that one.

Just add water, and keep the coffee.

Great, I just got back from seeing my Urologist and he said I still have my .7mm stone in my kidney(as per my most recent ultra sound). Worse is that he won't take it out because he feels its not worth the problem even tho this one won't pass normally(which will in time cause more problems). Already went thru the hell of with a urinary stent that I had taken out of me due to complications. I am running out of options... I feel like I have a bomb waiting to happen inside me.

Sorry for the vent but this is getting crazy. I am open to any suggestions at this point because next time I have an attack, I won't bother with the hospital since they aren't giving me much hope and deal with the aftermath damage to my health.

7mm/0.7cm or 0.7mm? 7/10 of a mm is tiny. Lots of people have stones in the actual renal parynchema (body of the kidney) and will never have a problem with the stone as it wont move.
Have you had any stones analyzed for content? A stone analysis can tell your doctor if you'd benefit from something to prevent future stone development. Depending on the makeup of the stone, certain medications can help. For example, certain calcium stones can be prevented by limiting dietary calcium/Vitamin D supplements and taking a thiazide diuretic like hydrochlorothiazide. Other stones can be prevented by taking certain pH modifying medications, other stones can be prevented by lowering the concentration of uric acid in the blood.

I have had kidney stones since I was 18. I'm 33 now and pass one every few years and after trying everything in the medical book to prevent them they still keep on forming. i drink lots if water now as a preventative but drinking beer by the case during a passing I would tell myself helps. being shitfaced and having to piss every 10 minutes is a lot better then just sitting there in pain. my worst one was 8mm. had to get lithotripsy to get it broke up but damn it was worth it.

^yeah, there's often not a lot that can be done for many KS sufferers. If you live in a hot environment like TX and work outdoors, hydration is crucial. Drinking lots of beer will force you to pee and if the stone's not too big it'll pass from the increased urine flow and pressure in the ureter. Before CT scans became so common and cheap, the IVP used to be the test of choice to diagnose kidney stones. It had the added benefit of often helping dislodge the stone because all the extra IV fluid would make a person pass more urine, thus mobilizing the stone.

Still think the OP should ask his urologist if there's anything that can be done to prevent these. If the urologist hasn't analyzed the stone or seems like he/she doesn't want to address prophylaxis, I'd suggest finding a new urologist.

My Stone is in the docs hands. Well see what he says. Its been 2 weeks since he got it. Go back in 2 more weeks for a vasectomy. Good lord, I have had more people look at my junk in the past month than I care to think about.
