It's pretty important to me that I get side airbags in my JK. I'm thinking I might have to special order to get everything I want.
Question: Does anyone know if Koons gives the 7% off invoice on special orders? Or is that only on their inventory? Has anyone special ordered from Koons?
yes, their 7% below invoice is for both in-stock and special order Wranglers
before you place an order with them, shop around. i found a local dealer willing to match their offer (actually beat it by ~ $60) and in my state the processing/doc fee is capped at $116 per law (Koon's is $599 which cuts deeply into the discount they are giving you). also saved 6 hrs round trip of my time and the gas/tolls.
I was recently dealing with them and they offered 7% under invoice for sport/Sahara and 5% for rubicons. Doesn't matter if it's a special order, maybe different pricing for in stock. They're nice but wanted me to order the same day because 2016s are closing for orders so you may have to look into a 2017.
OK, thanks guys! I figured I'd have to get a 2017, we're a few months away from buying. I'm in Florida, and I hear that it's very hard to get a good deal here on a Wrangler. Can't hurt to try, though.
oh, yeah if you're in Florida then Koon's will be your best bet. if you drove an additional 3 hours north of Koon's you would be at the dealer where i ordered and you'd save an additional ~ $450'ish due to the difference in processing/doc fee. not sure if $450 is worth another 6 hrs of your time though
i'm in PA and in a 1 1/2 hr radius there are literally 22 CDJ dealers. definitely in favor of the car buyer in my area
If you go with Koons, consider flying to Richmond. I went to school at UVA and remember Richmond to florida flights on JetBlue were super cheap.
A one way from Orlando to Richmond is about $125
Then, just rent a car from Richmond to DC (Koons). Koons is just off the 495 beltway...easy to get to. Basically you just drive 95 north then take 495 to around Mclean...just don't drive it at peak time or it's a parking lot.
Then have fun driving your new toy back to Florida!
But then I think I remember someone saying once that a Koons person will pick you up at the airport and take you to the dealership. If that's true, you can't beat that.
I live in PA and got mine from Koons.
I had an initial problem with a water leak. I called on a Sunday the day after I got it. My sales manager called me right back on the Sunday right after his kid's soccer game. They really do things right there at Koons.
Koons is definitely on my list if I can't find a decent deal in NJ. Anyone have a good experience at a north/central Jersey dealer? Ordering in about a month.
Major World CJDR matched Koons discount on special order for me. It would be about an hour drive from north jersey. PM me and I will give you further references of the sales person and manager over there.
Zero imo. The special ordered Jeep will probably have less miles on it, and won't be test driven by anyone while it was sitting in inventory. It will have exactly what you want, nothing more, nothing less. The dealer also makes a few extra $$ on it because it isn't on their floor plan eating up money. You order it, it comes in, they call you, you pick it up. It sits on their lot a few days at most. That's the only way I will buy new.
When you go to take title to it, do it during a nice sunny day. Never pick up a vehicle at night. If you're not happy with something don't sign the paper work until they make it right.
Hey guys, It's pretty important to me that I get side airbags in my JK. I'm thinking I might have to special order to get everything I want. I bought mine from Reedman Toll Auto Group in Langhorne, PA
They beat Koon's price by $60 and I saved another $468 in the process/doc/prep fee b/c the state cap is $133. Savings right off the bat was $528, also saved a 6-7 hrs drive round trip + gas + tolls. They also gave me an additional $1,500 for my trade. Trade was important since I was trading in a high value vehicle and when paying PA sales tax, you only pay tax on the net.
If I lived in a state like Florida, then Koon's would have likely been my best bet. Craig Brenner is an awesome sales person, extremely responsive, and was definitely a pleasure to work with. Koon's is the real deal, no BS with their 7% off promo, and they are prompt and efficient at getting your order in. Nothing but good things to say about Craig and Koon's and the experience there. Depending on where I am for my next Jeep purchase, I could very well likely buy from him.
However, seeing how in my area of Pennsylvania there are 22 CDJ dealers within a 1 1/2 drive, my probability of finding a dealer who was near to meeting or had already met their quarterly or monthly volume sales goal was quite high. I sent out emails to 7 dealers before my lunch break ~ 11am on a weekday. By 2pm, I had a deal with Reedman.
I always give advice to people to shop around locally in conjunction with getting an offer from Koon's. Competition is a good thing and there are many variables to consider. Koon's 7% savings - a $599 fee reduces your discount to a ~5% savings below invoice depending on your type of build. Still a good deal, but you never know how close their price is to a price from another dealer more local without first asking around. If I was unsuccessful that week in getting offers to match Koon's, reaching out again the following week could yield different results. Expanding the net could also yield different results.
You are correct in everyway. I did all my homework and ended up at Koons. I am shocked Reedman beat them as they didnt even come close for me. Reedman wanted full sticker for a Hard rock which i told the guy he was insane
Interesting thread! So frustrated bc we've been to about 6 dealers in New Jersey-- all wanting at LEAST MSRP, the last guys at Ramsey Chrysler had us initially then told us flat out they will charge us $39,000 on a Wranglers Unlimited Sport with MSRP of about $37,000 because they ARE a high volume dealer in an area where they don't see a need to negotiate. Basically saying--if you don't want to pay that--no skin off our teeth, someone will. We just keep getting this Wrangler ..... not sure what to call it....ATTITUDE??? Is this typical guys??? We are new to shopping these but now know enough in that these things are always in high demand, high residual, no competition, less likely to be negotiated ...but is it normal to get this snooty, "we really don't need your business" attitude, someone else will walk in the door and take it if you don't!" This is exactly the reason I signed onto this forum. We keep hearing we're nuts thinking we can negotiate MSRP, invoice for a 2016 is unheard of...and yet I'm seeing posts stating you Wrangler lovers are able to do that! Help US then ...please!! : ) I would be ever so grateful. Momma needs OUT of her 2005 Toyota Sienna minivan!!
Right now is the worse time to buy a 2016. Most dealerships here in Virginia, including Koons, are not budging from MSRP since I don't think the dealerships are getting any new ones in other than what they ordered before the order window closed in July.
2017's aren't set to hit the dealer lots until mid-to-late October so now the supply of 2016s will dry up quickly and dealers know this and there will be someone who can't wait for the 2017 and must have a Jeep now so they won't budge.
As far as that attitude of that dealer, that sucks. Sorry you experienced that. If you do buy, definitely check out the Koons group buy going on now for the 2017s (7% below INVOICE on all models except HardRock which is 5%). NJ is only a 3-4 hour drive. Craig will hook you up. Good luck!
If you live in the midatlantic, Virginia has no cap, Pennsylvania about $112 and Maryland caps at $300.
If you are getting a hardrock JUK it is about 1% advantage in Pennsylvania over Virginia, but if you are getting a sport 2 door it comes out to about 2%. For me Koons 7% under invoice is really 5% compared to my one hour trip to Pa.
I am in DC metro area and have bought two of of my last four vehicles in Pa., one in Maryland (their fee capo used to be $200 and increased).
since the only time I step into a dealership is to pick up a vehicle I ordered over email, a 90 to 120 minute drive to several jeep delaers in Pa., compared to 40 minutes to koons is not much.
But Koons is more straight up and responsive than the average dealership so that does count. So if in my final numbers this time if a Pa dealer is giving me an OTD that is only $200 less than Koons including that $600 "fee" I will go with Koons this time around
My local dealer came within $400 of Koons out the door price. East Tennessee Chrysler Dodge Jeep, located in Crossville.
I didn't have a trade, told them they would get a deposit immediately to order it if they met my price, and didn't finance so the deal was quick and clean.
It is projected to arrive the end of this month.
