The vent behind the front tire is to improve air flow from the front of the vehicle through the inner fender while driving. My guess is that they'll also tie into the engine compartment somehow.
Could make for a unique idea on how snorkels are ran on the JL versus having to cut the hood or cowl like on the JK.
As far as the top, I read somewhere and was told by a couple I dealerships that the 18 want have a removable top, just panels that can be removed and no soft top.
We'll all get used to it. It's still a Jeep. I'll still wave. If it doesn't sell at first all they have to do is slap a better drivetrain, engine combo in it and all will be forgiven, forgotten.
When I was saying not fully removable I was referring to the side windows in the rear. That's what the dealerships have said. Like I said I don't trust the dealership but I asked when I saw that article and was curious what they had to say about it.
I'm kind of surprised they didn't change it a lot more. It's still a JK. These are the kinds of changes that other brands do on a yearly basis. The past generations of Jeeps all looked way different. They changed everything, size, wheelbase. This could be a special edition JK. Not significant IMO.
They wrapped these things up like they were top secret for so long. Then you find out they just added a couple new wrinkles in.
Can't forget about the "rumored" drivetrain, engine, transmission, etc - Changes.
Aesthetics (on a Wrangler) can only be pushed so far, History has shown.
Not bad. Kinda looks more like an update than a total redesign. I bet most non-Jeep enthusiast won't notice the differences. The link shows a pic with the top removed, so that's great news.
Sounds like dealerships are just trying to be sure you buy the model on their lots right now.
I'm pretty sure it'll be a Jeep, but with more lines and hopefully a great diesel.
a diesel would be nice, but FCA is going through a similar situation that VW went through. I wonder if that will impact the possibility of a diesel Wrangler
Minor complaint: I don't like the LED strips on the fender. (No problem with the turn signals.) Otherwise looks pretty good, and hopefully close to reality in terms of apparently still having easily removable top/doors.
Having said that, the only thing that'll keep me from eventually buying one neither a real factory soft top, or real aftermarket soft top options. I'm hoping we'll see some quality "renders"/shoops/whatever of soft top variants soon.
I will be happy "IF" whatever comes out gins up mixed reviews some liking and some not so much.
That outcome will serve Us ALL well.
Current owners will have a following for "their" Jeeps AND FCA will enjoy continued success with a following for the New offering - That is a win/win Folks.

not surprising that the changes aren't too drastic if the leaked drawing is real. btw these renderings are just someone taking creative license from the "leaked" drawing and running with it, so I wouldn't get too caught up in the details of these. The real story will be under the hood with the turbo 4 and/or diesel engine options....
Here's the actual supposed leaked drawing for any who haven't seen it...
I like it. Looks a little more streamlined. I like how they changed the HR bumper and made it less boxy looking.
