LED Lights...Am I Crazy To Mount Here?

Hey everyone,

I just received some LED lights from ENGO.

Ive got a pair of 12" bars, that I think will fit in the openings in my grill.

Has anyone tried to mount light bars vertically in this space?

Are the light bars setup for a fog pattern? If that's the case, mounting them vertically might not give you much useful light.

Regardless of functionality, this would probably look awesome

The lights are 4" deep.

I have about 3" at the top of the grill. So its not looking good so far.

Any suggestions on how to shoehorn it in there will be appreciated.

PS. this is an engo 12 inch LED, and im very surprised at the quality. Feels heavy and tough. We'll see how it holds up.

its a 30 degree spot light. i thought that was good for poking through the holes in the grill.

If that doesnt work could always try hacking up the front bumper and mount em in there

If they're truly SPOT beams, and not COMBO beams, then mount both of them on a bar above your windshield! You can then save your front bumper area for proper Flood, Fog, and Driving beams...

have to chop it

The lights are too deep for my intended purpose.

the back half of them is all fins, I think I can chop about an inch and a half off the back of it.

anyone see a problem with this plan?

Man...all of my instincts are screaming: DON'T DO IT, PIE!

Can't really tell you why, other than thoughts about the vast wave of heat that pours out of my grille in summer; visions of electrical fires; the thought of those lights – which I assume are fairly sturdy – pounding relentlessly against the plastic grille; and a host of other ephemeral, half-realized horrors that I can't seem to articulate.

Then again, Neil Armstrong probably had a little bit of pucker going on when he stepped out of Apollo 11 onto the surface of the Moon, too.

So what do I know.

Those fins r there to dissipate heat from the light. Don't cut them.

There is only one way to fit the fins in the grill. Chop them.

The lights are so well made and beautiful, that i hate to take a 3 inch cutting wheel them, but, they have to fit.

who wants to see me chop them and cram them in?

I wanna see this guy beat the crap out of these lights for a area that in my opinion would look ridiculous to have lights in them. Not to mention less air flow to a engine that already runs hot. HACK THOSE LIGHTS UP BROTHA.... GO TO TOWN

Yep, Black Diamond Fabrications. That hood mount fits a Rigid 20" light bar, not sure if it'll definitely work with this one. If and when I do buy lighting, it'll be that hood mount with the Rigid light bar...it'll look sleek on my black JK. I'm running their stainless steel grille inserts, they make a lot of fun stuff with exceptional quality.

Such as Rigid LED light mounts for OEM light location...

Tail light mounts...

Double windshield mounts...

And the full shebang...

Are you running those D2's off the factory harness without issue? Looks great.

I wish that was my truck

But yea, the hood mount would be sweet if he could get it to work.

I replaced the original fogs in the front bumper in my 2011 with D2 Dually's using the Northridge brackets. They are plugged into the original fog light wiring and I have no issues with them whatsoever.

Installed pics

Here are D2's in the fog light holes, and D2's on the windscreen. We never get fog here, so I'd rather have more long range light for country driving. Too many wild kangaroos over here and I want to see them before I hit them!
I also have Hella HID driving lights as well.

Their mounts look pretty sweet. I went looking for their website to see what else they make and couldn't find it. It looks like Rigid Industries bought them out in November but I don't see that Rigid offers any of their stuff. Damn. I really liked those rear tail light mounts for the Dually's.

They do, just search for "rigid mount" on the Northridge website. If you don't find the bracket you need, email Dave and hit BDF up on their facebook page and ask them about that item.

Ive got the 20' LED bar and a mount for it on the hood.

Ive also got 4 4' round LED lights from engo both spots and floods.

And I have the two 12 inch bars.

Installing it all this weekend. Spots on the windshield, floods on the bumper, 20 bar on the hood.... If not in the grill, where do you guys think I should mount the 12s?
