Left jeep out in rain. Advice

I got caught by a summer shower with my top off. I looked under the rear storage compartment and it's was holding an inch or more of water after a few days. Are there any other places I should look that may be holding water?

There is a drain plug under the carpet in the storage compartment. Just pulled mine a few minutes ago. I got caught with my top down too. Also drain plugs in the rear floor board and front floor boards. I pulled my carpet from under the front seats back to the passenger seat also a few minutes ago and drained water from there too

Its a black oval rubber plug

Here is some pictures of the plugs. They are all under the carpet. Not sure who posted this but I don't think they will mind me reposting the link

Right. It's (1) Pull the carpets out, (2) pull the drain plugs, (3) keep the top down for a few days for the seats to air dry, and (4) declare victory. That is all.

For the future, note you've got to watch your steering column and in-dash electronics for water. Most everything else can just be left to air dry.

So I guess when the saleshole told me it was OK for everything in the Jeep to get soaked, he was full of crap.

Yes he did. There have been people that have had clock spring problems from water getting into the steering wheel. It not common but if water does get down into it, it's expensive to fix. They make steering wheel covers just for this.

Yes, at least in part.

The seats and the floors are okay to get wet, though you've obviously got to watch out for mold and mildew (as with anything really) if you let the water sit. A lot of folks get rid of their carpet altogether so as to not have to deal with that aspect of clean up.

As Rick noted, the clockspring is not good to get wet, and your radio/nav unit/whatever is most certainly not "marine grade" (like what you'd have on a boat).

So the salesman wasn't totally off--with the ease that the carpet can come out and the drain plugs, your jeep is better equipped to handle water than most more "traditional" vehicles. But it's not "water proof."
