License plate wouldn't fit

First, I've never seen one attach like this before. Right side of the plate slides into notches on the surround then the two right holes of the plate fit on little knobs sticking up then put two bolts in on the left side of the plate. Strange.

Second, The knobs didn't line up to the right side holes on my tag. I had to drill them out a bit to make it fit.

Third, my plate was too long to even fit flush. I had to take tin snips and trim down both sides of my tag to get it to fit.

Fourth, the two bolts that go in on the left side were so hard to get in using a flat screwdriver I thought I was going to have to get a ratchet out to put on those bolts. And yes, they were the bolts that came with the Jeep in a bag that said license plate bolts.

Anyone else had this problem on their Jeep?

my plate was not as bad as yours, but I did have to trim the edge a little to fit. I live in Alabama.

I didn't use the "tag bolts" that came in my Jeep. They were huge. I used some smaller slotted hex washer bolts.

I filed down one end of my plate and had to elongated the holes to get them to line up with the plastic knobs.

You can always remove that monstrous plastic mount and relocate the plate.

My 3rd brake light and tag lights are going on tonight.

You need to move to a state with smaller plates.

PA plates are a little off. The plate is the right width but the holes don't line up right.

My Texas plates didn't need trimming. One of the holes is a tiny bit misaligned but not enough to be a real issue.

Is there a thread on how to remove the rear license plate and relocate it to the spare wheel?

My IL plates didn't fit and it was bending out like some of the other photos. My daughter almost cut her hand on it as she was running around my jeep

Didn't want to move the license plate because I have the CB antenna coming off, and I don't want the plate covering up my aftermarket wheels

Once my vanity plates came in, I took a dremel to it, widened the holes, and trimmed the corners, then sanded it down. Fits perfect now and it doesn't stick out

All that for the license plate . . .

Same thing here when I got the CA plates in Feb. I think I just screwed it down without trying to make it flush. It hasn't fallen off yet...
