So I have my first jk and my plan is to lift it and put on 35 inch tires. I'm in highschool so I'm not making much cash working at a pet store lol. I have enough for the lift I want (2.5 inch) so I was wondering if it would be weird to have a small lift with stock tires just until I can afford the bigger tires which would take a year probably. Right now all I have is a barricade front bumper, a pypes high clearence exhaust, and one of those angry eye grills. Share your thoughts and photos. Thank you!
You are working hard and asking questions rather than just jumping to conclusions - Nothing weird about building in steps.
I know patience is kind of an old guy thing but you can save up and do everything at once too.....
You "lift" to gain ground clearance AND allow fitment of larger tires.
You won't have the tires for awhile so there's that.....
Looks wise, personal preference but it can look a little awkward lifted with stock tires.
I put a 2.5" BB Lift on mine with the street tires. It looked a little Awkward but not terrible. I've since added 32" tires and while it looks ok most of the time, they still look small to me. I added some wheel spacers and that helped a little further
Why? The point of lifting is to clear bigger tires. I would save up and wait until you do tires. There is nothing wrong whatsoever with a stock height Jeep with stock size tires. In my opinion, lifting with stock tires looks very disproportionate.
To much fender space if u ask me. This is 2.5 Mopar lift and stock sport rims. Watch craigslist for tires and or rims, find some with lots of rash for cheap, plasti dip them and run them until you can afford better
Those tires seem a lot smaller then mine. Mine have the 17 inch rims and I'm assuming slightly bigger tires because the tires in that picture look much smaller.
I plan to do 2 1/2" lift in the next few months and run my stock wheels and nearly stock tires for little while. My current tires are 265/70R17, though.
And I'll have the funds for tires and wheels when I do the lift, but I want to let it settle and then determine what size tires I want. I'm back and forth between 34s and 35s.
I have smaller 33's that only measure 31.75 high. I only did the 1" TF spacer in the front. I think the clearance is perfect. I can't stand the look of too much lift where the tires don't fill the wheel wells proportionately. But that's me. If I go with a taller tire next time around, I may add the additional 1" in front and back.
I went with the Rough Country 2.5 inch bb. It was perfect for my needs and I still have the stock tires and wheels. I don't think it looks bad at all. In fact, I really like the look. I know I got exactly 2.5 inches in the front and 2 inches in the rear. It didn't lift higher like spring lifts do. I think it would be fine. Like it was said, build in stages. You may find a setup that you like better than your original plan for a lot less money.
FWIW, I did the opposite.
I went with 34" Nitto Ridge Grapplers (285/75/17) and wheels first. With the new backspacing, and a little trim of the air dam, no issues running around town.
Then weeks later I installed the 2.5" lift.
The new beefy tires with wider stance looked great and I knew I wasn't going to be wheeling so no worry about fender rub.
Agreed, I put my lift on 4 years ago, tires are finally coming in a month or so. Been running on 265/70/17 Duratracs for 5 years now. It doesn't look great, but it's definitely not horrible either and the extra height from the lift has helped my breakover and approach/departure angles enough that I might have ripped my stock rear bumper off once or twice instead of getting some light scratches on it if I waited to lift.
Do a 1-1.25" body lift (cheep and easy) along with your tires first. Save up until you can afford 2"+ coil lift and you can add that to the body lift later. A slightly crammed wheel well looks so much better than a roller skate. If keeping the stock wheels, wheel spacers will most likely be needed.
