I am getting ready to pull the trigger and start some serious mods to the Jeep. I have a bout 3500 miles on my auto 2017 unlimited rubicon hard rock.
I started with some modest changes - 3D grille, blacked out marker and turn signals...
In the next few weeks, I'll be adding a 4" Mopar lift and thi is where it begins to get tricky because I'd like to keep the rubicon wheels.
Initial thoughts were to throw on the Micky Thompson ATZ P3 315/70/17 with 1.5' spidertrax spacers.
The more I think about it - the more I think 37's may look better. Can a 37 be mounted on the stock rubicon wheels without any major problems? My fenders are stock/painted and would like to retain them if possible.
Now this is my daily driver and I travel a decent amount for work. I'm geared at 3.73 and will likely not be doing any extreme wheeling.
Anyone have thoughts on DD set up with 37's on stock rubi wheels with 4" mopar lift?
Your 4" lift and 1.5" adapters will handle the 37's just fine.
But your stock factory wheels are only 7.5" wide. I really doubt, that you will find any tire shop that will install them.
You really need a 8.5, 9.0, or a 10" wide Rim for them to fit properly. The best thing to do is, once you decide on a tire Brand and size, call the tire manufacture and ask what Rim width that the recommend. I believe they will confirm what I have mentioned.
New 9" wide Rims with a 4.5 Back Spacing would work great!
I see it the opposite way - why not 37's for a DD that will only see mild trails? I don't think that I need to be hardcore rock climbing to justice 37's, right?
On a 4" lift - the 37's look to fit better in the wheel well.... I"m probably 60% leaning toward 35's, 40% to 37's at this point.
As for the gearing - although I agree it would not be ideal.. it looks like 37's with 3.73 gearing are still within the minimum allowable gear set? 4.56 looks to be the best spot for the 37's, and that may ultimately where I end up if we are too sluggish.
Those look great. I think i saw them on another thread - someone was talking about getting the Jeep decal added to them to match the stock wheels... Thanks for posting that link.
35"s aren't going to be as anemic as 37"s are on 3.73 gears. You'll probably want to have a gear upgrade to 4.56/4.88/5.13 (take your pick) if you are set on 37"s.
I've got a HR on the way, and while I was seriously considering 37"s (mostly DD here too), I'm reevaluating going with 35"s.
If I go 35"s, then (likely):
2.5" AEV lift
35"s (315/70R17, so about 34.5 really)
Still deciding on the wheels, but like the Quadratec Hardrock
4.56 Gears
If I go 37"s, then:
3.5 AEV lift
37"s (37x12.50/17)
Still deciding on the wheels, same as above
4.56 Gears
Still need to figure out what will fit in the garage…
Looks like we are in the same boat.... I figured we could try the 37's with the current gearing and upgrade them after if / when needed.
I like the higher lift - set on the Mopar 4", and was also worried about fitting in the garage. As far as fitting in the garage goes, it looks like the 4" mopar and 35's will get me to about 78-80".
I have 83" of clearance... the 37's should fit just fine as well.
It would have been much easier if the 37's were too high for the garage... but apparently when they built my house in 1941... they wanted to make sure I could fit a lifted jeep with large tires [emoji106]
I have a 2014 JKUR auto with 3.73 gears. I also have 37's mounted on ATX slabs. I've been driving it this way for 4 months now and 2500 miles.
The jeep still accelerates quickly. If you floor it on the on ramp, you'll be over the speed limit in no time. It's the cruising that sucks. On the highway the transmission will downshift to 4th with an incline. There's not really enough passing power in 4th. Downshift to 3rd and you have no problem passing. In the city driving 30-45mph, it'll still hunt for gears as you try to accelerate.
BTW, I have 4.88 gears sitting in my house and will be installed here shortly.
Wheels Are too narrow for 37s. I wouldn't go less than a 9 inch wide wheel.
The Mopar 4 inch lift uses fixed rear arms. I saw it at the auto show with 37 inch KO2s (the smallest 37 that actually measure 35) and the tire was maybe an inch from the pinch seam at best. If you use any other brand 37 it will be hitting, even with the KO2 speed bumps will be your enemy.
As for gearing, if your jeep is light and where you live is flat you can get by on 3.73s.
