You'll get a lot of reflection off the hood, which will cause your retina to constrict which in-turn restricts light the eye can make use of defeating the whole purpose of a light.
Turn your dash lights way down next time your driving at night, give your eyes a few minutes to adjust, you'll be shocked at the difference in your night vision!!

I hate the reflection I get from the lights on my A-pillar, I think I'm gonna move them as far outboard as I can.

What light pattern are they? On the A-pillar you really want a SPOT style pattern, the light goes down range rather than reflecting off of everything back into the cabin.
