Locking Fuel Door

I just bought a new soft top Sport today.

I think a locking fuel door is going to be the first thing I ad to it. I am nervous about a miscreant dumping stuff in my tank. Which ones have people used? I am thinking I want to go with a black cover.

I got one for that exact purpose... I realize that having a locking gas cap won't stop a single person from stealing the fuel, but I do have more than one student that I could see dropping who-knows-what down my tank to get back at me for them not studying...

I went with a Mopar locking gas cap... They make one that can be paired to your ignition key... Got it through Steve White Motors... Usually get all my Mopar stuff through them (they usually have decent prices and have earned my trust)...

Like this:

PS When I ordered mine, the listing instructed me to provide my VIN and they were able to key it for me... For whatever reason, the particular listing linked says you have to take care of that with a dealership/locksmith... If you go with SWM, you may want to ask, because they were able to do it for me...

I believe mine is from Rugged Ridge (or Smittybuilt?). It's black and looks nice. I chose to put one on more for cosmetic reasons and figured why not get locking while I'm at it. Reasonably cheap mod that looks good and serves a purpose.

Unfortunately not in the US as far as I'm aware (at least my 2010 didn't). You fancy Australians with your diesel engines and standard locking gas caps.

I went with this Mopar one from quadratec. Not the fuel door, just the cap but serves it's purpose for $30. May add a fuel door for cosmetics eventually.

I got the RR from amazon that locks, but also has a magnet to keep it closed if I chose not to lock it. I only lock it on occasion if I park somewhere that I think I'd prefer to have it locked. So I don't mind if it isn't keyed to my ignition key. I keep a key in the center console and a spare at my house.

Rugged Ridge 11425.06 Black Aluminum Locking Fuel Door Cover : Amazon.com : Automotive

Install took me about 5 minutes.

You're actually better off with a Mopar locking gas cap. The locking fuel cover doors don't hold up over time. A Mopar fuel cover door will work the best combined with a Mopar locking gas cap.

i bought the rugged ridge one. thankfully it was pretty cheap cuz..... well it's pretty cheap. within 2 days the lock is froze and won't turn anymore. good thing it was unlocked at the time. now it just looks pretty and serves no real purpose.

honestly i won't buy rugged ridge anything ever again. bought 8 things from them the day i bought the jeep and all but 1 had problems. emailed them several times and got no response.

i liked the idea of the locking fuel door but just do yourself a favor and buy a mid to higher end one and stay away from cheap.
