Locking gas cap

Anyone have any good recommendations for a good reliable locking gas cap? I would rather hear from you guys than from amazon reviews.
For a 2014 JK

Mine came with one so I can't say much about others. Mine had been good so far. Don't know who makes out since I never bothered to look. But reviews on Amazon are usually ok. You just gotta know what to look for in them& what not.

I've had a Mopar locking gas cap on for 4 yrs. with no issues. That's the only one I would recommend. I'm sure others have put on different ones with no issues also, but they'll have to chime in.

For prob 10 years (if not longer) I've used "Stant" products. The locking gas cap and their Radiator pressure release cap. Sure doesn't look all custom like the billet caps etc.. But it gets the job done for us. The only thing one needs to keep an eye with all gas caps is the key slot is exposed to all types of weather and road conditions.. so it will need to be oiled and check often.

Oh man thanks everyone I really appreciate it.
Up here where I love people are shady, my neighbor just had his gas siphoned a couple of months ago.
My baby is always in the garage but don't feel like leaving anything to chance.

Hey Peter, did you have to take it to the dealer for them to install? Or can you do it yourself?
I would assume dealer since the key is the same.
It would be awesome to just use the same key as the ignition!

True.. we waited as long as possible to get the locking cap.. until one day at the local walmart caught some walmart worker attempting to piss in out gas tank.. (old style gas cap was installed) After confronting the worker and walmart themselves, they ended up giving me the Stant cap..

None of my dealers in the area wanted to give me the time of day keying it because I bought it online. The dealership that tried didn't have the right shims so I ended up bring it to a locksmith to key and they charged me $30 bucks LOL. Paid $55 for the ignition key gas cap online and then the cost of fuel trying to find a dealership to help me

It all works now!
(remember to oil it well before seating the barrel into the cap or it'll squeak!)

Stant gas cap, ordered from Amazon for less than $20. So far, working great.

I bought it from the parts counter at the dealer. They keyed it for free while I waited. After I paid for it. Went outside and put it on.

Sorry to be the sour apple, right this minute, grossly unhappy with the (11-15-13)dealer installed Mopar not keyed to vehicle locking gas cap (only one they had on hand). Freezing cold today, down to a little over 1/2 tank, tried to unlock gas cap to fill up, gas cap just twirls like a top!...would not unlock. Came home, called the (1 hr. away) dealership, could not reach my service rep, talked to parts (they left a note for service rep), if they and us are not snowed in tomorrow will drive up Tue or Wed. to see what can be done. I have a locking cap for the above concerns, however, if I'm going to be locked out and need to be towed to a dealership when I'm out and about...what then...what to do?

Edit ^ lol here's your fix = tire iron lol

Only reason why I run one is it came with the jeep. Way back I ran a locking cap on my TJ That would freeze up all the time in the winter. Tried de-icing products and nothing helped. I NEEDED GAS lol I grabbed my tire iron and smashed it into a million pieces. "That was too easy" Last locking cap I ever bought. If this one breaks (or I break it), I won't use another.

I put the cheaper not keyed to my vehicle Mopar cap. Works good. I dont put it on to prevent siphoning, just contaminants being puored in. If they want your gas a quick drill in the tank will do the trick.

I bought the Mopar one keyed to ignition - though I bought it at the dealer, they didn't have the right tumblers so I had to take it to a locksmith to have it keyed. Still not a bad deal. I really like how that Drake one looks though. My main concern is not having it fit right and getting the gascap warning light. It was an issue with the TJ's for awhile and the only one that fit right was the Mopar one.

The Drake locking billet cap from Quadratec finally arrived. Looks good, but having a tough time getting the cap to lock. Yes, there are directions on the Quadratec website.

I went buy the South Point Jeep in Austin which had the Mopar cap in stock. Shop wanted $150.00 to key it, said it would take an 1 1/2 hour. Apparently they didn't want my business. Went back and told the guy in the parts department what the shop quoted. He didn't seem to care.

Cool Apparently it's a crap shoot if the dealership can sell this AND key it...

I'd get the ignition keyed cap again if I had to, but as I mentioned above, it can be difficult to find a dealer that knows how to key it. So unless your dealer is cool about keying it for you and has the parts to do it, then buy it online and take it to a locksmith. It'll run you about $80 bucks total give or take this way.

I bought mine via Amazon.com (seller name: Mopar Express Parts), nice people to work with and good price.

I want one key for my Jeep... ignition, hood, gas cap... done.

You've got to be kidding. You should have gotten more than a gas cap. I hope you used germicide on anything that slime-bag touched.

x2

On a side note, isn't one supposed to slather themselves in germicide before entering a Walmart?

Haha! I work at Walmart. And yeah it's a good idea anywhere you go. I can't count the times I walk in or out of the restroom and customers just walk out after whatever the hell they did , WITHOUT washing their hands. Then again I'm sure that's everywhere.

Thanks! Too cold, hand would have frozen on tire iron!!! LOL!!

Dealership was able to get the locking cap off, put the factory one back on and parts did rebate the cost of part. I will rely on good Karma with a non locking gas cap...until such time as JKUR has to be towed in due to gas tampering....

Sorry to hijack your post with my neg. rant....Ooops! got to start on that good Karma.... Good luck with a working locking gas cap!

I never understood a locking cap or door. Hypothetically speaking here. If I want your gas ... Ima gonna get it. I've seen (not in person) locking doors pried open with body damage because of it. It's not worth a 1/2 tank of gas ... Take it

I guess tampering would be a good reason
